Ultrasound Specialist III - Part Time

Responsibilities Obtains images of internal organs with ultrasound techniques to aid differentiation of cysts, abscesses, and other pathological conditions. Selects appropriate operating mode for specific ultrasonic examinations of cardiac motions, recognizes abnormal conditions, and adjusts recording techniques to obtain appropriate display. Measures biparietal diameter; tests and records fetal heartbeat; conducts examinations of pregnant patients to determine placenta location, fetal position, multiple gestation, and abnormalities. Conducts fetal echocardiograms; checks patient history to anticipate effects of previous surgery, childbirth and other conditions that could affect the ultrasonic image of internal organs. Prepares and positions patients for display of area to study; posts results. Demonstrates ultrasound techniques to radiologic technology and/or ultrasound students; monitors student performance, corrects faulty techniques, explains appropriate methods, documents progress and maintains records. Performs all exams commensurate with certification level, such as more complex ultrasound procedures and/or mammographic exams and related QC duties. May perform radiologic or mammography procedures if licensed. Minimum Qualifications Either Pattern I – Three years of full‑time paid experience performing ultrasound examinations in a physician’s office, clinic, or hospital, including one year of experience equivalent to an Ultrasound Specialist II in San Joaquin County. Or Pattern II – Graduation from an approved ultrasound/vascular technology education program plus two years of experience, including one year equivalent to an Ultrasound Specialist II. Or Pattern III – Graduation from a two‑year allied health education program that is patient‑care related, plus three years of full‑time clinical ultrasound/vascular experience, including one year equivalent to an Ultrasound Specialist II. Special Requirement – Competence to perform at least two ultrasound modalities: abdominal, cardiovascular, vascular, obstetrical/gynecological. Certification as a Radiologic Technologist and/or Certification in Mammography by the Department of Health, State of California may be required. Knowledge The theory and techniques of ultrasound; operation and care of ultrasound equipment; methods of positioning patients for ultrasound procedures; physical and organic anatomy; operation of transducers and camera. Ability Requires sitting, standing, manual dexterity, bending/stooping, lifting patients; positioning patients for various imaging examinations; effective verbal and written communication; independent work; operation of standard and complex equipment. Physical/Mental Requirements Mobility: frequent keyboard operation; standing for long periods; walking, pushing/pulling, operating heavy equipment; occasional sitting and stair climbing. Lifting: constant lifting of 5 lbs or less; frequent restraining, lifting/turning heavy objects or people; occasional lifting of 5–70 lbs; visual: constant need for overall vision, hand‑eye coordination, reading/close‑up work; color-fast, depth, field vision; dexterity; frequent writing; hearing: constant hearing of normal speech, talking in person, phone, radio; occasional faint sounds; emotional/psychological: constant public contact, decision making, concentration, independent work; hazardous material exposure; weekend/night work and overtime; environmental conditions: occasional hazardous material exposure.
