You recognize a student's error pattern, pinpoint the phonemic deficit, and construct a targeted phonics intervention without a boxed curriculum. That's baseline. It's not what sets you apart. What sets you apart is that six-year-olds brighten when you enter the classroom. At Alpha, this position is Guide first: a dynamic, magnetic adult that young learners thrive with. Your literacy expertise opens the door; your capacity to captivate a K-2 group for a 20-minute workshop is what secures the offer. Alpha has dismantled conventional instruction. Students advance through core academics independently via AI-adaptive applications, without lectures, textbooks, or scope-and-sequence guides. You create small-group literacy workshops using live performance data and facilitate motivation sessions that propel students toward weekly app targets through school currency, leaderboards, and developmentally appropriate game mechanics. Your opening months focus on earning credibility in the room. Workshops must be engaging, differentiated, and demonstrably impactful. Student satisfaction and "love your Guide" feedback measure that explicitly. As you establish yourself, your responsibilities expand: analyzing AI-generated diagnostics to refine instruction, documenting fluency and decoding progress, and influencing Alpha's K-2 literacy model as adaptive platforms mature. Before an offer is extended, you'll submit a brief video sharing a captivating story for young children and complete a full-day campus visit working directly with K-2 students. Low energy with children disqualifies candidates, regardless of credential strength. What You Will Be Doing Creating and facilitating small-group K-2 literacy workshops rooted in structured-literacy frameworks (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or comparable), informed by live student data Facilitating daily motivation sessions that ensure 100% of your students meet weekly adaptive-app targets, leveraging Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate game elements) Conducting and evaluating running records, fluency assessments, and decoding measures to monitor growth and refine subsequent instruction Analyzing AI-generated performance insights from Alpha’s adaptive learning platforms to individualize instruction dynamically, not solely during lesson prep Serving as the approachable, high-energy adult your K-2 students anticipate seeing daily What You Won’t Be Doing Implementing a commercial reading curriculum, scripted lesson sequence, or district-mandated pacing calendar; you build lessons directly from student performance data Delivering whole-group lectures; all instruction occurs in targeted small groups while students engage with adaptive apps for core academics Serving as a literacy coach, teacher mentor, or district-level reading specialist; you work directly with children in the classroom daily Managing a conventional classroom schedule—subject-by-subject lectures, homework corrections, test preparation; your scheduled time comprises workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small groups Assigning grades on homework or report cards; student advancement is tracked through app analytics and your running records Literacy Specialist Key Responsibilities Provide structured-literacy instruction that produces measurable acceleration in K-2 reading performance across phonics, fluency, and decoding domains. Basic Requirements Structured-literacy credential (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR Master's degree in reading instruction Bachelor's degree in any discipline, plus 2+ years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction within the past 5 years in a school or clinical environment, employing systematic phonics or structured literacy methods Proven capacity to independently design reading lessons and clearly articulate instructional content and methodology, without dependence on a published program Proven capacity to assess reading progress and describe concrete student gains in fluency, accuracy, phonics, or decoding Willingness to work on-site full-time at one Alpha campus: Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Fort Worth (Keller), Dallas, Plano, or The Woodlands, TX; or Park City (Salt Lake City), UT (relocation assistance available) Willingness to serve all K-2 learners (not exclusively struggling readers) and incorporate AI and adaptive-learning technologies into everyday instruction Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship Nice-to-have Requirements Practical experience with AI-enabled or adaptive literacy platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or data interpretation Experience in non-traditional or innovative educational environments (charter, micro-school, Montessori, hybrid models) Experience in performance, youth sports coaching, or other contexts requiring audience engagement with K-2 age groups outside traditional reading instruction About Alpha Join the team building school around student growth Alpha reimagines the school day around faster learning, stronger mentorship, and more time for students to build real-world skills.
