Best Wire & Cable is a leading low-voltage wire and cable distributor serving commercial contractors across numerous areas of expertise including fire alarm, oil & gas, industrial controls, building automation, solar/renewables, security, lighting controls, electrical, voice/data, and mechanical trades.  Founded in 2004, we've experienced strong, sustained growth by building real relationships with contractors and delivering the reliability that national distributors can't match. We're now investing in growing our presence in the Houston market.

The Opportunity

This is a hybrid sales role based out of our Houston office/warehouse. You'll split your time between developing new contractor relationships in the field and supporting day-to-day operations when you're in the office. The right person sees the operations side as a way to understand the business inside and out, not as a distraction from selling. This market is largely yours to build, with significant upside for someone who can sell. Standard hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

What We're Looking For

•     Self-starter who can build a territory with minimal day-to-day oversight

•     Experience in wholesale distribution sales, the electrical industry, or commercial construction is a strong plus, but not required — candidates without direct industry background should be ready and willing to learn our products and the trades we serve

•     Comfortable and willing to do physical warehouse work, including operating a forklift, when needed — no ego about pitching in

•     Strong relationship-building skills with commercial contractors; comfortable on jobsites and in the field

•     Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for local travel throughout the Houston market

•     Forklift certification a plus (or willingness to obtain)

What You'll Do

Sales (primary focus):

•     Identify, prospect, and develop new contractor accounts across the Houston metro area

•     Grow our existing Houston customer base through regular visits, jobsite relationships, and proactive account management

•     Develop and execute your own sales strategy and prospecting style to build the Houston territory — this role rewards initiative and ownership

•     Coordinate with our Dallas corporate office on planning and tasks needed to support your territory, including purchasing material, setting up new customer accounts, and identifying target accounts

•     Build and manage your own pipeline and territory

Operations:

•     Coordinate with existing staff on general office and warehouse operation including but not limited taking orders, support receiving, order pulling, general warehouse operations, order fulfillment, shipping, etc.

•     When our operations team member is out, step in and run the full warehouse function — receiving, pulling and staging orders, forklift operation, and other equipment as needed
