Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Back Cove Animal Hospital Back Cove Animal Hospital is dedicated to providing comprehensive, high-quality veterinary care with an emphasis on exceptional client service and patient care. Internship Overview The internship program provides veterinary students with hands‑on experience in routine and non‑routine appointments, surgical procedures, and dentistry services. Students work closely with a supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical assistance or participation. The internship typically lasts 2 to 8 weeks depending on student and hospital schedules, and is open to all veterinary students regardless of class year. Responsibilities Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics Perform and observe dental services Assist or perform surgical procedures Manage medical care of patients in collaboration with the medical team Communicate with clients, support staff, and medical team to develop and implement patient care plans Qualifications & Stipend Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel and living expense stipend.
