Grant Writer

The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, developing, writing, and submitting grant proposals that support USA Cares' mission and programs. This position manages the grant development process for federal, state, foundation, corporate, and other funding opportunities while ensuring proposals and reports meet applicable requirements and deadlines. The Grant Writer works closely with Development, Programs, Finance, Communications, and Executive Leadership to develop compelling, data-driven proposals that demonstrate the organization's impact. Key Responsibilities Grant Development: Research funding opportunities and develop, write, edit, and submit grant proposals, applications, letters of inquiry, and related materials. Federal & State Grants: Prepare federal and state grant applications while staying current on applicable guidelines, regulations, compliance requirements, and reporting standards. Grant Research: Monitor RFPs, NOFOs, funding trends, and other opportunities to identify funding aligned with USA Cares' mission and priorities. Data & Impact: Collaborate with Programs and Finance to gather and analyze data, develop measurable outcomes, and demonstrate program effectiveness in proposals and reports. Grant Reporting: Prepare and coordinate interim, annual, and final grant reports while ensuring requirements and deadlines are met. Grant Tracking: Maintain the grant calendar, funding records, deadlines, reporting requirements, and proposal documentation. Funder Relations: Support relationships with foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other funders, including meetings, site visits, and stewardship activities. Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work with Development, Programs, Finance, Communications, and Executive Leadership to gather information and develop accurate, compelling grant materials. Process Improvement: Maintain proposal templates and supporting materials and recommend improvements to strengthen grant development and reporting processes. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business, or a related field preferred. Demonstrated experience with federal and state grant writing required. Experience with foundation and corporate grants. Experience developing grant budgets, performance measures, and outcome-based narratives preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, research, and communication skills. Strong understanding of federal and state grant guidelines and compliance requirements. Ability to interpret data and develop meaningful metrics and measurable outcomes. Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities independently. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Commitment to professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and the mission of USA Cares. Technical Skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel. Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM/grant-management systems preferred. Ability to organize, analyze, and present data using spreadsheets, reports, or similar tools. This position is primarily based at USA Cares' headquarters. Regular work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. USA Cares currently operates on a hybrid schedule, with employees working remotely on Fridays, subject to business needs, departmental requirements, and supervisory approval. The organization's work schedule and remote work arrangements are subject to change at the discretion of USA Cares. This is not a fully remote position. Occasional local or regional travel may be required for funder meetings, site visits, events, or other organizational needs.
