Job Title Building and Grounds Cleaning and Maintenance Organization TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY Primary Location Texas – Austin Employee Status Regular Schedule State Job Code: 8021 Grade: 13 Salary (Pay Basis) Monthly: $3,896.48 Number of Openings 1 Overtime Status Non-exempt General Description Perform moderately complex custodial team lead work to clean and care for state buildings and their premises. Work involves assisting in planning, assigning, coordinating, monitoring, and inspecting the work of custodians; conducting training; establishing and maintaining written records of special projects; coordinating or performing minor building maintenance and equipment repair and installation. Oversee the work of others. Work under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Duties / Responsibilities Perform plans and assign general custodial functions, such as sweeping, mopping, and dusting restrooms, offices, and other areas; cleaning office furniture, walls, light fixtures, windows, and floors; and emptying trash. Instruct staff in work policies, procedures, and the use and maintenance of cleaning materials, chemicals, and equipment. Perform a variety of cleaning, minor maintenance, and detailed custodial work in offices, restrooms, and other building areas. Clean office furniture, walls, and windows; empty trash; and clean offices in entirety. Perform carpet maintenance and care. Assist in moving furniture due to cleaning, office rearrangements, or special events. Determine best product and use cleaning agents in a safe, cautious, efficient and effective manner for sanitization of restroom facilities, plumbing fixtures, floors, showers, etc. Inventory, maintain and restock janitorial closets to ensure timely replenishment of supplies. Inspect buildings for cleanliness, completed work, and needed repairs. May use a variety of custodial equipment including, but not limited to, vacuum cleaners, floor maintenance machine, high speed buffers, carpet shampooers and extractors, automatic scrubbers, pressure washers, wet and dry pick ups, dry process carpet cleaners, and related equipment. May perform minor equipment repair on custodial equipment. May perform limited yard work including trims shrubs in designated areas only, edging, pull weeds, sweep sidewalks pick up trash on the ground, cleans courtyard areas, and empties trash cans/ash trays near proximity of the building. May periodically be asked to work other than normal hours to accomplish special projects. May drive vehicles and haul materials, supplies, dirt, and/or furniture. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent is preferred. Experience: Two (2) or more years of work experience in industrial cleaning. Custodial Knowledge: Cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work; use of modern electrical equipment; ability to read warning labels; recycling procedures. Licensure and/or Certification: Valid state driver license if driving required. Critical Infrastructure: Must not be employed by or have continuous connections to any governmental entity or political apparatus of a country listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4. Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. Interpersonal Skills: Poise, tact, diplomacy, and ability to maintain positive relationships; demonstrate DPS core values. Organizational and Prioritization Skills: Organized, flexible, able to prioritize in dynamic environments. Presentation/Communication Skills: Construct and deliver clear, concise presentations. Research and Comprehension: Quick and efficient access to information. Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail: Examine data, discern relationships, identify trends, solve problems. Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software. Confidentiality and Protected Information: Handle sensitive information responsibly. Safety: Work in safe manner and comply with safety standards. Travel and/or Schedule: Availability for after‑hour and weekend work is required. Physical and Environmental Demands Office environment and outdoors seasonally. Ambulatory skills – stand, walk, sit. Ability to speak, hear, and exercise visual acuity.
