Maintenance WorkerBellefontaine City Schools is accepting applications for a Maintenance Worker position. This is a full-time position with hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. The starting salary is $23.11 per hour and is based on experience.Perform maintenance duties which relate to the school plant, buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds operation. The below lists are not ranked in order of importance.Ensure safety of studentsPerform normal operator adjustments and service to facility equipment such as, but not limited to, compressors, HVAC system, and assist in maintaining records on operational and maintenance activitiesAssume primary responsibility for the safe condition of electric elements in the facilities owned or operated by the school districtPerform general maintenance work inside and outside the physical plant such as ceiling, roof, electrical, welding, plumbing, concrete, masonry, glazing, insulation, tile, pump, and fan repairsPerform general labor inside and outside the physical plant including districtwide groundskeeping, handling materials and supplies, moving equipment, operating power-driver equipment, truck driving, snow plowing, mowing, etc.Recommend supplies and equipment for purchaseConduct periodical inspections of the facilitiesPromote good safety practices and proceduresRepair and maintain HVAC, motors, and filtersInspect roofs for leaks and repairRepair and maintain electrical components, e.g., install new circuits, run new wire, install new breakersRenew plumbing components, e.g., clean sewer lines, replace fixturesAssemble and install educational equipmentRepair doors, windows and ventsRepair masonry structuresAssist with custodial or maintenance dutiesMaintain all safety and code requirements of the federal, state, and local board of education guidelinesOrder and account for material and labor relative to assignmentsMaintain the inventory of district-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and suppliesConduct routine and periodic inspections of school and facilities as part of a preventative maintenance programAssist in the control of all maintenance and custodial tools and suppliesEnsure the care, condition, appearance, repair, or replacement of all physical equipment, buildings, facilities and groundsComplete paperwork as necessaryPerform other duties as assigned by the Buildings and Grounds SupervisorHigh school diploma or equivalentExperience or knowledge of all building trade skillsValid driver's licenseAlternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriateAbility to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem solving skillsBasic understanding of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, roofing and glazingTraining in the proper care and storage of chemicals, e.g., hazards communication trainingAbility to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings, and labelsAbility to operate machineryAbility to distinguish colors for electrical wiring purposesTraining in OSHA/PERRP rules and regulationsPickup truckCarpentry toolsElectrical toolsVarious hand tools and power toolsOccasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissueOccasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., must be prepared to come to school on all scheduled work days except calamity daysOccasional evening/weekend workFrequent travel between buildings and to get suppliesOccasional repetitive hand motion, e.g., use of hand toolsFrequent requirement to work near moving mechanical parts, e.g., drill press, circular saw, table saw, hand toolsOccasional requirement to work in high placesOccasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic, dangerous, or caustic chemicals, e.g., chlorine, asbestos, welding dustOccasional exposure to loud noises, e.g., power toolsThis job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
