Job Title: Sonographer – 1073 Schedule: Day Shift, 40 hours weekly (7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) Overview The Sonographer supports the Reid Health Mission, Vision, Values, and Key Service Behaviors by performing ultrasound diagnostic imaging exams on patients per physician/provider orders with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. Responsibilities Corroborate patient’s clinical history with procedure and ensure information is documented and available for use by a licensed independent practitioner. Prepare patients for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. Select and operate imaging equipment and associated accessories to successfully perform procedures. Select appropriate anatomic program for the desired protocol. Position patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Immobilize patients as required for appropriate examination. Competently operate Ultrasound equipment. Evaluate Ultrasound images for technical quality; manipulate display parameters and provide hard copy and electronic records, ensuring proper identification is recorded. Report equipment malfunction and contact appropriate service vendor when experiencing errors and/or issues. Attend to the physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures. Maintain archival storage of digitized data as appropriate. Obtain vital signs (pulse, respiration, and blood pressure) when needed. Provide patient education; explain pre- and post-procedural instructions to patient and/or patient’s family. Provide practical instruction for students and/or healthcare professionals. Participate in the department quality assessment and improvement plan. Apply principles of patient safety during all procedures, including assisting/transporting patients. Provide assistance to office staff with answering the phones and other office work that is needed. Ensure that each radiology room is clean before bringing a patient into the room, cleaned daily, and stocked with supplies. Wipe down equipment after use of each patient with a hospital-approved germicide. Complete all paperwork in PACS, RIS, etc., and ensure all paperwork is correct and complete when submitting a PACS correction. Supervise students when applicable. Perform monthly Quality Assurance. Attend meetings when able, based on patient care needs. Obtain 30 hours of Continuing Education every 3 years. Complete all required computer-based learning modules on time. Attend 75% of department meetings. Adhere to regulatory requirements (DNV, HFAP, ISDH, OSHA, ACR, etc.). Assist in obtaining/maintaining departmental accreditations if applicable. Complete annual competencies. Follow Reid Health flu vaccine policy. Adhere to Radiation Safety Policies. Be subject to irregular hours and call. Assist in emergency or crisis situations as needed. Adapt to unpredictable situations. Perform any other assigned duties. Education & Experience Education Required: Graduate of an approved 24‑month program in Radiologic Technology accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and the United States Department of Education (USDOE). Documented education, training, and competency in Ultrasound and any other modality specific to their skills. Education Preferred: Additional radiology modalities. Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years in an approved educational program. Experience Preferred: Experience as a registered medical sonographer or licensed radiologic technologist in Radiography. Licensure & Certification Must possess a Radiologic Technologist License issued by the Indiana State Department of Health. Registered as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or be registry eligible. If not ARDMS registered at the time of hire, the employee is expected to obtain registry within approximately one year of employment. Certification and Registry in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required. Additional ARRT certification in any other modality(s) is preferred.
