Maintenance Technician – 2nd Shift

This 2nd shift Maintenance Technician role focuses on troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and mechanical equipment in a chemical plating and coating environment. The position works primarily from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with initial training on 1st shift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You will support production operations by ensuring equipment reliability, performing preventive maintenance, and resolving issues involving motors, pumps, pneumatics, and automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair production equipment with a focus on both electrical and mechanical systems.
• Work with electrical systems in the 220V–480V range, including wiring, panels, motors, and related components.
• Diagnose and resolve issues involving motors, pumps, gears, pneumatics, hydraulics, and filtration systems.
• Follow and complete the preventive maintenance (PM) schedule to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Troubleshoot electrical wiring and automation systems, including PLCs and related control equipment.
• Perform general maintenance tasks across the facility to support safe and efficient operations.
• Wire and maintain panels, motors, and other automation equipment to ensure proper functionality.
• Support plating and chemical processing equipment by identifying and resolving mechanical and electrical issues.
• Collaborate with production and other departments to respond quickly to equipment failures and maintenance requests.
• Maintain tools, work areas, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition in accordance with facility guidelines.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues both electrically and mechanically.
• Hands-on electrical background working with 220V–480V systems, including wiring and panel work.
• Mechanical background with experience on pumps, motors, pneumatics, and related components.
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting, including tracing circuits and resolving wiring issues.
• Ability to troubleshoot PLCs and automation equipment in a production environment.
• Solid understanding of general maintenance practices in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Comfort working in environments that involve chemical processes and plating operations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond effectively to equipment breakdowns.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a plating or chrome facility, or similar chemical processing environment, is preferred.
• Background working with mechanical systems such as gears, hydraulics, and filtration equipment is a plus.
• Familiarity with waste water treatment equipment and processes is beneficial.
• Ability to read and interpret basic electrical and mechanical documentation, such as diagrams and manuals.

Work Environment

The role is based in a chemical plating and coating facility that includes tanks, barrels, waste water treatment areas, racking, tool rooms, and warehouse and shipping spaces across two buildings. The main building houses production and waste water treatment operations, while the second building is dedicated to incoming shipping, receiving, and warehousing. You will work on 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with training on 1st shift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The environment is industrial and hands-on, involving regular interaction with chemical processing equipment, mechanical systems, and automation technologies, and requires adherence to all safety procedures and appropriate industrial attire.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
