Job Title
Reporting directly to the Assistant Financial Director, responsible for entry-level accounting duties in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and applicable laws, codes, and regulations. Ensures accuracy and completeness of financial information and reports.
Examples Of Work Performed
Balances and reconciles the general ledger and subsidiary accounting systems; examines all accounting transactions for accuracy; makes corrections to financial records as necessary
Reviews contracts and agreements for budget appropriateness
Reviews Commissioner's Court agenda; identifies all project related contracts, work authorizations, change orders, and agreements
Prepares grant reports, including monitoring grant expenditures and revenues as well as ensures compliance with grantor requirements
Communicates frequently with county staff and the general public to exchange financial information
Reviews and approves electronic asset transfer forms
Creates and bills monthly and quarterly invoices; reviews and follows up on past-due invoices
Assists with recording and reporting of fixed assets
Prepares journal entries
Assists with year-end procedures
Reviews expenditures for classifying in the appropriate fiscal year until the financial reports are issued
Prepares and reviews financial reports
Assists with reviewing issues regarding project invoices, budgets, contracts, or any other accounting or financial inquiries
Assists with various county financial related reports, research, and other financial information as needed
Collaborates with project managers on work authorizations and amendments
Assists Accountant II with various tasks
Attends all meetings and trainings, as required
Performs special duties as assigned

Physical Demands
Position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, standing and occasional lifting/carrying
Environmental Factors
Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environment
Regular travel between work sites as required
Irregular Hours
Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required
May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with major coursework in accounting or finance and one (1) year of basic financial experience
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and financial systems
Required within thirty (30) days of employment
Valid driver's license
