Registered Behavior Technician

The job of Registered Behavior Technician is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional staff and students to effect positive behavioral change in students. The Registered Behavior Technician will work directly with students ages 3-21 to teach skills needed to be successful in the classroom setting and to reduce problem behavior. Specific responsibilities include data collection and graphing, implementation of evidence-based behavior strategies, training of team members, participation in monthly after-school supervision sessions, and working collaboratively with teams. Must have current certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).

Accepts direction from the certified teacher and/or the behavior consultant assigned to the classroom for the purpose of meeting the needs of the student, their behavior plan, and/or their education plan.

Administers first aid and prescription medications to students for the purpose of providing emergency or necessary care in accordance with district, state and federal requirements.

Assists in developing procedures and training materials for district staff involved with students who have behavioral concerns for the purpose of enhancing programs for students in order to meet educational needs.

Assists with individualized assessment procedures for the purpose of developing intervention plans and analyzing progress.

Collects and graphs behavioral data for the purpose of analyzing and responding to student progress.

Complies with applicable legal, regulatory, and workplace reporting requirements (e.g. mandatory abuse and neglect reporting, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student safety and welfare.

Confers with teachers/specialists and participates in team meetings for the purpose of assisting in evaluating special education progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.

Implements evidence-based behavioral strategies for the purpose of promoting student self-regulation.

Implements academic instruction and behavioral plans, as assigned, for the purpose of assisting in meeting special education students needs and providing a consistent and safe environment.

Performs maneuvers as required by professional crisis management course(s) (e.g. emergency safety interventions, etc.) for the purpose of keeping the student, other students, and staff safe.

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

Trains other staff to collect and graph behavioral data, and to implement behavioral strategies for the purpose of enhancing the abilities of staff to analyze and respond to student progress.

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Perform other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the building.

Skills are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: work with students with challenging behaviors and following evidence-based behavior intervention plans and/or positive behavior support plans; adhering to safety practices and administering first aid.

Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: knowledge of evidence-based behavior strategies, reinforcement theories, prompt and prompt fading procedures, stimulus control and fading procedures, and generalization and maintenance procedures; understanding of the functions of behavior, and differential reinforcement principles.

Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: the ability to work with various teams for the purpose of supporting students with challenging behaviors; maintaining a work schedule requiring continuous physical activity; communicating with persons of varied backgrounds; maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions; adhering to district policies; and regular attendance except when taking approved leave. Must be flexible regarding scheduling and work location.

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to effect the organization's services.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent climbing and balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 35% sitting, 35% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

Targeted, job related education with study in job-related area.

Paraeducators working in a Title I building (or district wide), REQUIRE a minimum of 48 college credit hours, OR the successful completion of a state approved Paraeducator Assessment.

Valid Driver's License & Evidence of Insurability (as assigned)

20 hours in-service annually
