PT Recreation Leader- Food Program Assistant

The Position

This part-time position works 10 to 20 hours per week under the supervision of the Food Program Recreation Specialist, Recreation Coordinator, and/or Recreation Supervisor at the Yorba Linda Community Center. Responsibilities include performing a variety of duties relative to the preparation and serving of meals to Senior Citizens during the lunch program. This position will be assigned to work a varied schedule at the Community Center between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition, all Parks & Recreation staff members are required to work on the 4th of July.

Examples Of Duties

• Take inventory of all kitchen food, equipment and supplies; including ordering, receiving and storage.
• Maintain kitchen in clean and sanitary condition; including cleaning of food prep areas, equipment and supplies.
• Routinely complete food temperatures as required and record and maintain temperature control chart.
• Practice safe operating procedures and observe all safety regulations and precautions.
• Check food upon arrival for accurate delivery and complete meal preparation as menu prescribes.
• Prepare equipment and supplies for use for serving of meals.
• Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and food handling techniques.
• Prepare and reheat food to proper temperatures in order serve meals.
• Assist monitoring food service volunteers.
• Routinely check in participants using lunch program registration software and handle cash payments and donations.
• Set up, arrange, and operate tables, chairs, and audiovisual equipment to support facility activities and special events.
• Maintain records related to kitchen and volunteer operations.
• Attend and participate in all mandatory training sessions and meetings as directed by supervisors and/or administrative personnel.
• Perform other related duties and assignments related to this job as deemed necessary and appropriate.

• Possession of a valid first aid and CPR card or the ability to obtain one within the first three months of employment.

Other

Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school; paid or volunteer experience in preparation and serving of meals desirable. Applicant must be at least 18 years old. Class C driver's license required.

Physical Requirements The physical tasks of this position include sitting at a computer work station, reaching to a shelf height of 7 feet, bending and stooping, and turning and twisting, standing and walking 90% of the time. Additionally, lifting objects an average of 30 pounds, and pushing and pulling carts with a force of up to 50 pounds can each be sustained for periods of time from one to four hours. Each physical task occurs in variations throughout the day.

Vision requirements include ability to read books, magazines and other printed materials, signage etc. Hearing and speaking requirements include ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner via the telephone and in person with the public and co-workers.

Exempt/Non-Exempt This is a non-exempt position. Overtime at the rate of one and one half times the hourly rate of the classification is paid for hours in excess of 40 hours per week.

Background Check/Physical Exam Individuals selected for employment will be required to take and pass a background check (fingerprinting) for all positions and medical exam for full time and permanent part time positions. The background check and medical examination are at City expense; and conducted by a law enforcement agency and physician designated by the City. Candidates who are currently working are urged not to resign until they have successfully passed the background check, physical examination and received a final offer letter.
