About the Position

• Prepare operating rooms and ensure all necessary surgical instruments and supplies are available and sterile.
• Set up surgical equipment, sterile drapes, and instrumentation before procedures.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and assist during operations.
• Maintain the sterile field and ensure adherence to aseptic technique at all times.
• Handle surgical instruments, sponges, sutures, and specimens accurately and efficiently.
• Verify instrument and sponge counts with the circulating nurse before, during, and after procedures.
• Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization after each procedure.
• Assist in room turnover and preparation for subsequent surgeries.
• Support the surgical team during emergency procedures or after-hours cases while on-call.
• Communicate effectively with nurses, anesthesia staff, and surgeons to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Maintain compliance with facility policies, safety standards, and infection prevention protocols.
• Participate in continuing education and maintain current certifications.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental operations.

Requirements

• Active BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
• NBSTSA Certification (Certified Surgical Technologist – required)
• Minimum 2–3 years of Surgical Technology experience in an acute care hospital or similar environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile field setup, and intraoperative procedures
• Proficiency in maintaining sterile technique and infection control standards
• Ability to anticipate surgeon and team needs in a fast-paced OR setting
