Protection & Control Technician

Protection & Controls Technician (Substation Testing & Commissioning) Location: Nationwide (U.S. – 100% Travel) Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Protection & Controls (P&C) Technician to support substation testing and commissioning projects across the United States. This role is fully travel-based and requires extensive fieldwork supporting new construction, upgrades, and maintenance of high-voltage substations. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in relay testing, control systems, and commissioning activities within utility or EPC environments and be comfortable working in dynamic, fast-paced field conditions. Key Responsibilities Perform testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protection and control systems in substations (up to 765kV or as applicable) Conduct functional testing of protective relays, including SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, and other OEM devices Execute end-to-end commissioning activities, including: Point-to-point wiring checks Control circuit verification SCADA and communications testing Breaker timing and functional checks Interpret and work from schematics, wiring diagrams, and logic drawings Perform relay settings verification and implementation Carry out troubleshooting and diagnostics on P&C systems, resolving issues efficiently in the field Support energization and system turn-over activities Ensure compliance with safety standards, company procedures, and client requirements Document testing results, produce commissioning reports, and maintain accurate field records Collaborate with project engineers, utility clients, and field teams to deliver projects on schedule Required Qualifications 3 years of experience in protection & controls, substation testing, or commissioning Associate’s degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field Experience working with major utilities or EPC contractors Hands‑on experience with protective relay testing equipment Strong understanding of: Substation protection schemes (line, transformer, bus, feeder protection) Electrical fundamentals and power systems Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and relay logic Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively (100%) Strong commitment to safety practices and procedures #J-18808-Ljbffr
