Staff Physician - Correctional Health Services (Sunday, Friday, and Saturday 4PM - 12AM)

Position Overview Part‑time Physician for the Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of NYC Health + Hospitals. Provides medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning within the jail system at various Rikers Island locations. The role supports a 24‑hour psychiatric service and multidisciplinary care teams. Core Responsibilities Perform comprehensive histories and physicals on new admissions. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses. Evaluate need for consult services and submit prioritized consults. Review island and off‑island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns. Implement consultant recommendations and ensure standards of care are met. Respond to emergencies and fire drills promptly and professionally. Maintain performance indicators and take appropriate measures to comply. Order radiology exams, lab tests, and EKGs; interpret results with clinical context. Notify Urgicare for 3‑hour/EMS runs. Generate medical modifications as needed. Maintain clinical competency through review of CHS protocols, current literature, and CME. Provide clinical supervision for PA and NP staff, including co‑signing notes and medication orders. Adhere to CHS policies and procedures. Attend all mandatory in‑services. Comply with and maintain Employee Health requirements. Schedule Part‑time: Sunday, Friday, Saturday 4 PM ‑ 12 AM; various locations on Rikers Island. Qualifications Registered to practice medicine in the State of New York with a Federal DEA license. BCLS or ACLS certification and Infection Control certification. Medical specialty license or certification; board certified or board eligible in a specified area of medical specialty. 3 to 5 years of directly related experience, including residency in a related specialty.
