Position Overview

Ability Beyond Barriers is seeking compassionate, dependable individuals to serve as Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in our Supervised Living Program I (SLPI) and Independent Living Services (ILS) . DSPs play a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live as independently and meaningfully as possible within their communities.

This position focuses on person-centered support, skill building, and community integration while promoting dignity, independence, and quality of life.

• Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) , including personal care, hygiene, and meal preparation (as needed)
• Provide supervision and guidance based on each individual’s level of independence
• Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all individuals served

• Support individuals in building independent living skills , including:
  • Budgeting and money management
  • Cooking and household maintenance
  • Personal organization and time management
• Implement individualized service plans and goals

• Encourage participation in community activities, social events, and recreational opportunities
• Assist with transportation to appointments, work, and community outings as required

• Complete accurate and timely documentation of services provided
• Follow all agency policies, HIPAA guidelines, and state regulations
• Report any incidents, concerns, or significant changes promptly

• Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and families
• Participate in required trainings and meetings

• High school diploma or GED required
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and required training
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
• Knowledge of person-centered planning and community-based services
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25–50 lbs as needed
• Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations

• Starting Bonus $500.00 - $250.00 at completion of 45-Days; $250.00 at completion of 90-Days
