De Marillac Academy’s Associate Teacher Program is designed for a wide range of applicants, including non-certified teachers, recent college graduates, professionals from non-teaching backgrounds, and anyone considering teaching as a profession. Associate Teachers at De Marillac Academy learn foundational skills for a career in education including classroom management, curriculum and lesson plan design, family and colleague communication, and supervision and restorative justice skills. As full members of the DMA faculty, associate teachers are mentored and learn from their peers while acquiring a toolbox of educational approaches centered in Catholic Social Teaching, Social-Emotional Learning, and California Common Core standards. Associate Teachers receive personal and financial support to attain their teaching credential. Graduates of our Associate Teacher program go on to become accredited teachers at De Marillac Academy or are hired by other independent schools. While most Associate Teachers go on to teach in their own classrooms, some continue their studies in pursuit of advanced degrees, while a few go on to pursue careers inspired by their work with our students and families. Key Responsibilities Planning and Teaching: In support of the lead teacher, utilize a variety of teaching methodologies to create an engaging and safe classroom setting Planning and Teaching: In support of the lead teacher, provide differentiated instruction Planning and Teaching: Use relevant educational technology and programs to support instruction Planning and Teaching: In support of the lead teacher, develop and implement weekly student ‘playlist’ Planning and Teaching: In support of the lead teacher, develop and implement classroom community activities Planning and Teaching: Serve as a primary substitute Planning and Teaching: Serve as one of the primary prefects Planning and Teaching: Teach one subject for one or more classes as needed Grading: Support the lead teacher in assessing, monitoring, and evaluating student progress towards student goals Classroom Management: In support of the lead teacher, maintain effective classroom management and cultivates an atmosphere conducive to learning Classroom Management: In support of the lead teacher, monitor student socio-emotional health and well-being and partner with students, families, and administration to develop healthy relationships, self-care, and emotional regulation Classroom Management: Establish and maintain school expectations of student behavior and classroom environment utilizing restorative justice practices Communication: Communicates professionally with and within 24 hours Communication: Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, and families for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes Communication: In support of the lead teacher, provide student notes and participate in grade level care council meetings Meetings and Events: Attend weekly faculty/staff meetings and teacher talks Meetings and Events: Attend and participate in coaching sessions Meetings and Events: Attends priority school events as listed in the faculty-staff handbook Meetings and Events: Attend all professional development and faith formation meetings Meetings and Events: Participate in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of discussing relevant issues, developing skills, and learning best practices required to perform functions. Meetings and Events: Participates in Faith Formations Meetings and Events: Participate in staff orientation prior to the start of the school year Core Characteristics Uphold and live out the values of De Marillac Academy’s Community Covenant. Strong interest in building community and fostering relationships Energetic, flexible, resourceful, and a sense of humor Working Conditions & Physical/Other Requirements Substitute for other teachers as needed Prefects and supervision of students Establish mentoring relationship with lead teacher Participate in formal and informal assessments Participates in ongoing accreditation and reports as instructed by the principal Participate in school sponsored events and activities Document learning through photographs, or other creative means to highlight the story of learning and share with the community Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator Required for this Position 1-3 years of education experience Experience working with middle school youth and families Passionate commitment to social justice and educational equity Openness to embracing and promoting the Lasallian Vincentian mission and identity of De Marillac Academy Strong interest in building community and fostering relationships Proficient in Microsoft 365 products, Google Suite, and Google Classroom Requires some long hours working at the computer Some evening and weekend responsibilities Ability to lift 30 pounds Preferred Bilingual in Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese and English Familiarity and sensitivity with working with underserved and historically marginalized communities. Compensation Salary range for this role is $56,882-$73,499. A comprehensive benefits package is provided, including a transportation stipend. Opportunity for weekly remote work day available.
