Job Summary:
- The Phlebotomist II (Patient Services Representative II) serves as the primary point of contact for patients and is responsible for collecting high-quality blood specimens for laboratory testing. This role requires strong phlebotomy skills, excellent patient interaction, and adherence to established procedures to ensure accurate specimen collection, labeling, processing, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture, capillary, and specimen collection procedures accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare and process specimens for laboratory testing following established protocols.
- Verify patient identity and demographic information before specimen collection.
- Ensure specimens are labeled correctly in the patient's presence and obtain required patient verification/signatures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to specimen collection and processing.
- Follow all safety, quality, and compliance guidelines.
- Create a professional, compassionate, and positive patient experience.
- Perform both clinical and forensic specimen collections as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with HIPAA requirements.
- Support multiple collection sites and travel between locations when needed.
- Work independently while meeting productivity and quality standards.
- Promote a positive image of the organization with patients, clients, and coworkers.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-3 years of phlebotomy experience, including:
- Pediatric collections
- Geriatric collections
- Capillary collections
- Strong specimen collection, processing, and labeling skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Phlebotomy certification preferred (required only in certain states such as CA, NV, and WA).
- Medical Assistant or Paramedic training preferred.
- 2+ years of Patient Service Center (PSC) experience preferred.
- Previous customer service experience in a healthcare, retail, or service environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Reliable transportation and valid driver's license, if applicable.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts as needed.
- Ability to travel between Patient Service Centers and physician office locations with minimal notice.
- Commitment to workplace safety, professionalism, and organizational policies.
- Strong attention to detail and sound decision-making skills.
