Position Overview

The Director of Operations is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and performance of EEI's project execution team as well as some initial estimating. This position oversees everything from design development to commissioning of the systems. This position leads a team of 15+ personnel and is directly responsible for the overall management of multiple projects running simultaneously. They are responsible for cost estimating, project procurement, project management, field operations, project controls, safety, staffing, subcontractor management, and the overall financial success of their projects.

The Director of Operations serves as the primary link between project development, preconstruction, engineering, finance, and field operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, profitably, on schedule, and in accordance with customer expectations.

This position is accountable for operational excellence, continuous improvement, personnel development, and the successful execution of EEI's entire project portfolio from estimate to completion.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Oversight & Project Controls

• Lead preconstruction planning and development of project budgets
• Oversee all project operations across New Hampshire.
• Lead monthly reviews of profit & loss (P&L), cost-to-complete (CTC), and work-in-process (WIP) with the President and his team.
• Provide input for monthly financial forecasts and revenue projections.
• Identify risks and profitability drivers to support effective decision-making.
• Drive margin improvement through tighter controls around purchasing, estimating, change orders, and project administration.
• Ensure all project controls and documentation requirements are met, including extra work order slips and process compliance.
• Participate in annual business planning and operational forecasting.

Project Planning, Coordination & Execution

• Develop annual operational budgets and staffing plans.
• Be competent in general construction project estimating with a focus on mechanical systems.
• Collaborate closely with the Project Development Group throughout the lifecycle of all projects.
• Support planning and execution, including review of customer contracts, subcontracts, permitting, submittals, and change orders.
• Identify and track long-lead items using subcontractor, manufacturer, and industry knowledge.
• Ensure consistent change order management, coordinating with Project Development to maintain clear communication with customers.
• Drive supplemental meetings and project close-out activities for all assigned work.
• Establish operational performance metrics and reporting systems.
• Present project portfolio performance to executive leadership.

Team Leadership & Staff Development

• Support and mentor project managers, superintendents, and field staff.
• Promote team development and recommend training activities to foster a culture of continuous learning.
• Conduct timely and meaningful performance evaluations for direct reports.
• Encourage the professional growth and capabilities of the project team.

Communication & Coordination

• Work closely with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication of project issues and information.
• Promote collaboration throughout the organization to support successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• 10–20+ years of experience in construction or construction project management.
• Experience leading projects from concept to finish with an emphasis on customer satisfaction

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of project financials, forecasting, Cost to Complete & Works In Progress
• Ability to lead teams and mentor staff at all levels.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to identify risk areas, resolve issues, and maintain performance standards.

Licenses & Certifications

• Extensive knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (OSHA 30).
• MA Construction Supervisor License preferred.
• Trade or professional licensure a plus.
