The salary range for this position is $19.81 – $26.74 per hour. Placement within the salary range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. The role requires driving to various patients’ homes to perform in‑home phlebotomy draws. Geriatric phlebotomy experience is strongly preferred. Must be able to work Monday through Friday 5 am – 1:30 pm. The Phlebotomist provides expert phlebotomy services and demonstrates excellent customer service and communication skills. They function as part of a highly effective team that consistently puts “Patients First”. The Phlebotomist is responsible for venipuncture collection and specimen processing. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, order entry in multiple systems, verification of test result receipt, patient information retrieval, and lab reception/clerical duties. Responsibilities Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age‑related standards and departmental policies, protocols, and procedures. Demonstrates the AIDET model and optimizes patient safety to reduce medical or health‑care errors. Receives and reviews physician orders, ensuring all necessary information is included for appropriate lab services, and enters accurate orders. Communicates a patient communication model and provides appropriate post‑phlebotomy patient care. Processes specimens in a timely manner to ensure stability and integrity, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging for transport per established protocols. Reviews and records refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records; records concerns through the Corrective Action Log and reports to maintenance for repair. Understands equipment operation and maintenance; follows up on outstanding orders on the manifest log, and communicates all completed or pending draws/charges/results as appropriate. Notifies Laboratory and/or Physician of specimen procurement problems for optimal care. Maintains a safe work environment and is accountable for safe practices, including biohazard waste procedures and proper storage and pickup. Performs lab‑related clerical duties, including order entry, verification of test result receipt, patient information retrieval, and utilization of email, medical record systems, handheld and desktop devices, ordering and maintaining supply inventory, filing, and sanitizing equipment. Uses department resources efficiently; participates in cost‑reduction and process‑streamlining efforts. Adheres to continuing education expectations; completes and signs off on competency assessments. Demonstrates teamwork; interacts with and assists others professionally. Applies critical thinking and judgment to investigate and resolve challenging situations. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required High School diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization, training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting, or CMA certification. Preferred Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types. Experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge. Familiarity with medical EMR systems. Knowledge of medical terminology.
