Director of Nursing

Position Title: Director of Nursing (DON) Job Summary: The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall management and coordination of nursing services in a skilled nursing facility. The DON oversees the nursing staff, ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care, and maintains compliance with regulatory standards and best practices. Additionally, the DON collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary team to promote resident well-being, staff development, and organizational success. Key Responsibilities: Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and certified nursing assistants (CNAs), ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards of care. Oversee the development and implementation of resident care plans, treatment protocols, and nursing interventions, ensuring individualized and person-centered care. Monitor and evaluate nursing care delivery, resident outcomes, and staff performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and professional development. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing nursing practice, healthcare delivery, and quality assurance, as well as accreditation standards. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, therapists, social workers, and dietary staff, to coordinate resident care and achieve optimal outcomes. Develop and maintain effective communication channels with residents, families, and stakeholders, addressing concerns, providing education, and promoting resident satisfaction. Manage nursing department budget, resources, and supplies, optimizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness while maintaining high-quality care. Stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations, reimbursement policies, and industry trends, advocating for nursing interests and implementing best practices. Qualifications: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Minimum of 2-5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, with at least 1-2 years of experience in a skilled nursing facility or similar healthcare setting. Strong clinical knowledge and expertise in geriatric nursing, long-term care, and rehabilitation services. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate nursing staff. Proven track record of strategic planning, organizational development, and performance improvement. Familiarity with regulatory requirements, quality assurance processes, and accreditation standards applicable to skilled nursing facilities. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to resident-centered care, compassion, and professionalism. Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and Microsoft Office applications.
