Fabrication TackerExperienced TIG Pipe Tackers NeededWe are seeking experienced Fabrication Tackers with hands-on TIG pipe tacking experience. This is not an entry-level welding position.Candidates must have previous experience fitting, positioning, and tack welding pipe and be capable of passing the required on-site Tacker Test.Required Experience & QualificationsPrevious professional pipe tacking/TIG welding experience requiredPrevious experience as a Fabrication Tacker, TIG Tacker, Pipe Tacker, or similar pipe welding position preferredMust be proficient with TIG (GTAW) on carbon steel pipeMust understand proper fit-up, alignment, root opening, and tack placementMust be able to produce clean, sound tacks suitable for completion by production weldersMust be comfortable working with pipe in multiple positionsMust be able to read and use basic measurements and common pipefitting/welding toolsFabrication Tackers must be able to safely position, fit, and tack pipe according to job requirementsRequired On-Site Tacker TestFabrication Tacker candidates must successfully complete the required on-site Tacker Test:TIG – 2" Schedule 80 Carbon Pipe | 5G Position | Must Pass Visual Inspection & X-RayResponsibilitiesThe Fabrication Tacker is responsible for performing TIG pipe tacking and related fabrication duties in accordance with company procedures, specifications, and safety requirements.Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddleObtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gunConnects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding EngineerStarts power supply to produce electric currentStrikes arc which generates heat to make and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work pieceWelds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positionsMay clean or degrease weld joint or work piece, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bathMay repair broken or cracked parts and fill holesMay prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfacesMay chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter, using hand scraper or power chipperMay preheat work piece, using hand torch or heating furnaceMay position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixtureMay tack assemblies togetherMay cut metal plates or structural shapesPerforming only those jobs on which they have been trained and/or authorizedWorking in accordance with safe job practices and complying with company safety rulesUsing required personal protective equipmentReporting unsafe conditions or practicesCooperating during investigation of any accidents that occurTaking an active part and participating in safety meetings, pre-job safety briefings, task hazard analyses and Job Safety AnalysesHas knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular fieldRelies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the jobWorks under minimum supervision.
