Direct Support Professional / In Home Caregiver
At Family Relief Resources (FRR), our mission is to provide families and clients with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities with the quality, person-centered daily care they need. We provide qualified DSPs who have a passion and drive to help these individuals, with a positive, stable, and highly compensated work opportunity. We recognize this is a special gift and we are dedicated to helping every DSP to find the client they are meant to help.
Location: Gresham
Schedule: Minimum 20 hours a month guaranteed. Client needs weekday availability during the summer with weekend/evening availability preferred. During the school year weekend and evening availability required. Schedule to be determined by DSP and client. Availability for relief care is preferred.
About the client:
9-year-old girl with severe anxiety, ADHD, and complex trauma. She has NDE (neo-natal drug exposure) and is adopted. She is super smart, very outgoing, and very physically active. She generally has a sunny, extroverted, creative disposition and can be quite affectionate, generous and empathetic.
She requires extra observation to ensure she stays safe, especially in the community, such as not running into the street. This is often due to poor impulse control, where there is no delay between what she thinks and what her body does. Communication is hard for her when she's already concentrating on something else. She needs to be gently coached to pause/redirect as opposed to abrupt transitions. She enjoys playing at the park, going to the rock climbing gym, all kinds of art projects/crafts, card and board games, animals
DSP requirements:
DSP needs to have experience working with kids who have major trauma and severe neuro diagnoses.
A DSP would be a good fit who is fun, kind, but has good boundaries and when something is a hard "no", can provide an explanation as to why (ex health, safety, time constraint) and/or find alternatives through collaboration or compromise. Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
Responsibilities:
Support and encourage the client during in-home ABA sessions, helping maintain engagement.
Assist with light household tasks, such as helping him clean up after dinner.
Participate in activities including reading, writing, movement games, and other interests he enjoys. Provide occasional community access while ensuring safety and positive experiences.
Offer consistent behavior support in coordination with existing supports already in place.
Use clear, direct communication and reinforce appropriate boundaries to support structure, safety, and successful interactions.
Qualifications:
Experience with ABA, behavior management, or working with children with developmental disabilities is preferred. A patient, interactive, relationship-focused approach. Strong communication skills and the ability to establish and uphold healthy boundaries. Someone who is active, engaged, and comfortable supporting a child with high energy.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- 18 years or older
- Pass a Criminal History Check.
- Work a minimum of 15 hours per month.
- CPR and First Aid Certificate (within 3 months of hire)
- State required online training courses (pre-hire and within 3 months of hire)
- Continuing Education (24 hours per year)
- Basic knowledge of technology, including the ability to use a smartphone for timekeeping, submitting daily and quarterly shift reports, communication with office and client family, and additional requirements as needed.
- Has direct experience working with children and/or adults with varying levels of support needs (Including experience with intellectual and/or behavioral disabilities).
- Understand requirements of maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding individual information.
- Be literate and capable of understanding written and oral orders.
- Be able to communicate with individuals, health care providers, case managers, and appropriate others.
- Be able to respond to emergency situations when services are being delivered.
