As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic for the Department of Transportation, you will support essential public services. This position gives you hands‑on challenges that keep Pennsylvania's transportation network strong. You will work with a crew that depends on your skill and dedication. Every shift helps keep the Commonwealth moving forward! Responsibilities Equipment Repair: Repair and overhaul a variety of vehicles and construction equipment Preventative Maintenance: Carry out routine servicing and system adjustments to extend equipment life Diagnostics Work: Identify mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and determine appropriate repair methods State Inspections: Perform safety and emissions inspections, as well as complete required paperwork Tool and Shop Equipment Care: Maintain and repair motorized hand tools and report missing or damaged items Work Area Safety: Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow all safety procedures Work Schedule and Additional Information Full‑time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. Qualifications Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the Commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Special Requirements: This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent. This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment. This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment. This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period. Additional Requirements: This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
