About the Role:

The Manager, Test Engineering leads all factory testing activities for Maverick Power’s low- and medium-voltage switchgear, power distribution equipment, and associated control systems across all manufacturing facilities. The role is accountable, above all, for the safety of test personnel and for ensuring every product is completely and correctly tested before it ships.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on building a trained, properly staffed, and well-equipped test organization that scales with Maverick Power’s growth plan. The Manager partners closely with Manufacturing to meet weekly, monthly, and quarterly revenue commitments, and leads the department in a way that reflects Maverick Power’s core values.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safety of Testing Personnel (Highest Priority)
  • Own and enforce a zero-incident safety culture within the test department; stop-work authority is expected and fully supported by leadership.
  • Enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc-flash and shock boundary controls, PPE requirements, and energized-work permitting for all test operations.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, OSHA, NEC/NFPA 70, and Maverick Power HSE policies in every test bay at every facility.
  • Verify that no technician performs energized testing without documented qualification, correct PPE, and required personnel present per policy.
  • Maintain test area layouts, barriers, grounding, and equipment guarding so high-voltage and high-energy testing is physically controlled.
  • Conduct routine safety audits, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses; investigate near-misses and incidents and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Ensure all test equipment is calibrated, inspected, and immediately removed from service when unsafe.
• Complete and Correct Testing Prior to Shipment
  • Own pre-shipment testing of LV/MV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, ATS, and associated control systems.
  • Ensure execution of required tests including dielectric/hipot, insulation resistance (megger), contact resistance, breaker timing, relay and protection testing, primary and secondary injection, control function checks, and sequence-of-operation verification.
  • Review and approve test results and release equipment for shipment; no unit ships without a complete, signed test record.
  • Verify testing against project specifications, approved drawings, sequence of operations, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain complete and accurate test records and FAT documentation packages.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer witness testing and factory acceptance testing.
  • Investigate escaped test defects and field returns; drive root cause and corrective action back into test procedures, fixtures, and training.
• Training and Qualification of Test Personnel
  • Build and maintain a documented training and qualification program covering electrical safety, test equipment operation, schematic interpretation, and product-specific test procedures.
  • Maintain a skills matrix for every technician and engineer; certify individuals to specific test scopes and re-qualify on a defined cadence.
  • Onboard new technicians to a defined ramp plan with mentorship and verified competency before independent work.
  • Run cross-training across facilities and product lines to increase flexibility and coverage.
  • Develop bench strength and identify future lead and supervisory candidates within the department.
• Facility Capability, Equipment, and Standardized Procedures
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized test procedures applied identically across all Maverick Power facilities.
  • Assess each facility’s test capability and ensure it is properly equipped with required test sets, fixtures, benches, power sources, and safety infrastructure.
  • Own the test equipment asset plan: calibration program, preventive maintenance, repair, replacement, and capital requests tied to capacity and product mix.
  • Standardize test documentation, forms, and data capture so results are consistent and comparable across sites.
  • Identify and deploy improved fixtures, automation, and tooling to reduce test cycle time and manual effort while improving repeatability.
  • Control test procedure revisions and ensure the current revision is the only one in use at every site.
• Staffing to Support the Growth Plan
  • Maintain a rolling staffing model that ties test technician and engineer headcount to forecasted volume, product mix, and facility expansion.
  • Forecast hiring needs ahead of demand; partner with the Director of Engineering and Talent Acquisition to recruit, interview, and hire.
  • Balance workload, shifts, and coverage across facilities to avoid single points of failure and excessive overtime.
  • Track and report utilization, capacity, and backlog risk for the test function.
• Collaboration with Manufacturing and Revenue Attainment
  • Partner daily with Manufacturing, Production Control, and Project Management to sequence testing against the weekly, monthly, and quarterly shipment plan.
  • Participate in production and shipment planning meetings; provide clear, early visibility into test capacity and any risk to a ship date.
  • Escalate blockers — incomplete units, missing documentation, late material, or equipment issues — with enough lead time to protect the revenue plan.
  • Balance schedule pressure against safety and test completeness; neither is negotiable in order to make a date.
  • Provide test feedback to Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering that improves design and build quality upstream.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a multi-site team of test engineers and test technicians.
  • Set clear expectations, goals, and performance metrics; deliver timely performance reviews and development plans for all assigned personnel.

• Metrics and Continuous Improvement
  • Define, track, and report department KPIs including safety incidents and near-misses, test-related escapes and field returns, first-pass test yield, test cycle time per unit, on-time test completion against ship dates, training and qualification compliance, calibration compliance, and headcount versus plan.
  • Use test data to identify recurring failure modes and drive corrective action with Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Support internal and external audits as they relate to test procedures, test records, and equipment calibration.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent technical experience will be considered.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience testing low- and medium-voltage switchgear or similar electrical power equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience leading test or technical teams.
• Demonstrated commitment to electrical safety and a track record of leading safe high-voltage and high-energy test operations.
• Strong working knowledge of electrical testing procedures, test equipment, and safety protocols for LV and MV power distribution equipment.
• Proficiency with relay test sets, megger/insulation testers, hipot equipment, multimeters, timing analyzers, and primary/secondary injection systems.
• Comprehensive ability to read and apply electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical and mechanical assembly drawings.
• Proven ability to standardize processes and roll them out across multiple sites.
• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, UL, NETA, NEC, NFPA 70E, and OSHA requirements as they apply to factory testing.
• Experience with test automation tools and fixtures.
• Leadership skills with a focus on training, team development, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Proficiency in data analysis, test planning, and project management; comfortable managing to KPIs.
• Experience with ERP systems and the MS Office Suite.
• Strong organizational, time management, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to lead training sessions and present to leadership.
• Electrical distribution equipment manufacturing and assembly experience is a significant plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience managing teams across multiple locations preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to work in and around energized electrical equipment while wearing required PPE.
• Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds at times.

May work in various settings at the Maverick Power facilities, in offices, in multiple shops, and in commercial buildings.
