Occupational Therapist - PRN

Responsibilities Three Trails Behavioral Hospital in the area of Independence, MO is actively hiring an Occupational Therapist. We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Occupational Therapist (PRN) to join our multidisciplinary behavioral health team. In this role, you will help patients develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and overall well-being while supporting their mental health treatment journey. The name Three Trails was selected to honor the historical significance of the city of Independence as the starting point for the Santa Fe, Oregon and California Trails. The logo icon is a compass, which is symbolic of wayfinding, and metaphorically the personal journey to recovery. The Groundbreaking for the new hospital was held in January 2025. Beam topping was held in July 2025. The facility is expected to open in the second half of 2026. The Occupational Therapist will: Assess patients' functional abilities, strengths, and areas of needby completing an activity therapy assessment within 72 hours of admission. Aid in the development of the patient’s multidisciplinary treatment plan. Facilitate therapeutic groups and activities that enhance coping skills, emotional regulation, social interaction, and independent living skills. Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as appropriate. Document evaluations, progress notes, and discharge recommendations in accordance with regulatory and facility standards. Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams to support positive patient outcomes. Educate patients and families regarding therapeutic techniques and community resources. Three Trails Behavioral Hospital will: Serve children and adolescents, adults and seniors with innovative and evidence-based inpatient behavioral healthcare focused on individual needs and comfort. Create more than 200 new, full-time jobs including nurses, clinicians, therapists, technicians and administrative staff, when the facility is fully operational. Be located at the intersection of I-70 and Little Blue Parkway, adjacent to the Children’s Mercy Hospital Outpatient Clinics. Feature 120 licensed beds ready to meet the mental health needs of the surrounding community. Span more than 88,000 square feet, and will include an activity yard and gym. Qualifications Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program. Current Occupational Therapist license in the state of Missouri (or eligible for licensure). Strong assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or willingness to obtain) Flexibility that would include evenings and weekends.
