Associate Director, Procurement Operations (Somerville)

Overview Alnylam Pharmaceuticals is seeking an Associate Director of Procurement Operations to lead global procurement operations across a multi-entity environment. Reporting to the Director, Global Procure to Pay, this role oversees the buying experience and transactional procurement operations in SAP Ariba, including supplier onboarding, and drives compliant buying channel adoption, automation, standardization, and strong controls across the upstream Procure-to-Pay lifecycle. As a people leader, the Associate Director builds and scales a high-performing procurement operations team and partners closely with Strategic Sourcing, Finance, Accounts Payable, IT, Legal, and the business to deliver a streamlined, scalable, and user-focused buying experience.This is a hybrid role based in Cambridge, MA.ResponsibilitiesLead global procurement operations, ensuring alignment with Strategic Sourcing, Finance, and business prioritiesOversee buying experience and transactional procurement activities, including requisitioning, intake management, and purchase order creation within SAP AribaLead, develop, and motivate a high-performing procurement operations team, building sustainable capability and accountabilityOwn SAP Ariba and related procurement platforms, defining strategy, roadmap, governance, data integrity standards, and continuous improvement initiativesDrive adoption of compliant buying channels, including Guided Buying, catalogs, and standardized workflows, to improve the end-user experience and policy complianceEnsure strong internal controls and compliance with procurement policies, upstream Procure-to-Pay processes, and audit requirementsPartner with Finance and Accounts Payable to resolve invoice issues and improve supplier and purchase order data qualityDrive process optimization, automation, and supplier onboarding and adoption to support scalability across procurement operationsAnalyze procurement performance metrics and deliver insights to improve efficiency, cost management, and end-user buying experienceServe as a trusted cross-functional partner to advance Procure-to-Pay transformation initiatives and drive adoption of new ways of workingQualificationsBachelor’s degree required; BS or MBA in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline preferred8-10+ years of experience in procurement, procurement operations, or Procure-to-Pay functions, including people leadershipStrong understanding of end‑to‑end P2P processes and cross‑functional dependenciesDeep SAP Ariba expertise required (including Guided Buying and SLP); SAP S/4HANA strongly preferredProven experience designing and driving adoption of end‑user buying experiences, including catalog and category‑based purchasingBiopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical industry experience requiredDemonstrated success driving process improvement, automation, and digital transformationStrong leadership, change‑management, and stakeholder‑influencing skillsGlobal procurement experience and familiarity with contract lifecycle management (CLM) or third‑party risk tools preferred#LI-MH1 #LI-Hybrid U.S. Pay Range$161,500.00 - $218,500.00The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education.
