Assistant Professor Political Science & Public Administration (Tenure-Track)

Position Overview The Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Texas Southern University invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Public Affairs beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in public policy, public administration, and public affairs, maintain an active research agenda, and contribute to the university’s service mission. Essential Duties Teaching (Undergraduate Focus): Teach a 3/3 or 3/4 course load per academic year. Responsibilities include delivering engaging in‑person and/or online courses in undergraduate Political Science (e.g., American Government, Public Policy) and Public Affairs (e.g., Public Administration, Organizational Theory). Curriculum Development: Develop and update undergraduate curriculum to align with current industry trends and academic standards, particularly in emergency management and public administration. Research and Scholarship: Maintain an active research agenda resulting in high‑quality, peer‑reviewed publications in public administration, public affairs, or related policy fields. Student Advising & Mentorship: Provide academic advising to undergraduate students and mentor students pursuing careers in public and non‑profit sectors. Service & Collaboration: Participate in departmental, college, and university committees; engage in service to the profession and foster partnerships with community, state, or federal agencies, particularly regarding public sector leadership. Qualifications Ph.D. in Public Affairs, Public Administration, Political Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution (ABD applicants considered if degree conferred by August 15, 2026). Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations, peer reviews). Experience teaching public administration, public affairs, and/or political science at the college level. Experience in online pedagogy and hybrid course delivery. Practical or professional experience in public service, non‑profit management and administration, or related fields. Strong communication, leadership, problem‑solving, time‑management, and coordination skills. Capacity to handle sensitive, confidential information and contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives. Additional Requirements Knowledge of department programs, accreditation requirements, and Microsoft Office or similar applications. Ability to maintain security or integrity of critical infrastructure, including communications networks, cybersecurity systems, and hazardous waste or water treatment systems. Working/Environmental Conditions Routine office environment with limited physical demands; occasional light lifting. Prolonged standing and/or walking may be required. Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: $61,568.86–$80,039.00.
