Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Duration: 23 weeks Shift: Day/Night Rotation Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification Must-Have: - One year of acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse - BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory and technical skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs and identifies urgent or emergent care priorities. They collaboratively provide direct care and apply appropriate interventions while evaluating patient progress. The ED RN demonstrates skill in performing various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations. They utilize relationship-based care principles to alleviate anxiety and address patient pain, discomfort, and safety concerns. The RN assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups and their families. They connect with patients and families during triage and identify initial management priorities according to established standards. Establishing rapport, the ED RN addresses patient comfort needs, listens carefully, and provides frequent updates. They conduct primary assessments of critical needs, document deviations from the norm for all age groups, and ensure timely identification of necessary interventions. The RN uses direct observation, patient interviews, and available data to conduct thorough secondary assessments. They identify contributing factors and assess the psychosocial needs of individuals, documenting any concerns regarding domestic violence or abuse. Reassessment is performed to evaluate the patient's response to treatment and changes in condition, responding appropriately. The ED RN encourages mutual trust and cooperation among team members to achieve the best patient outcomes. They teach others as appropriate and delegate tasks consistent with individual education and scope of practice. The RN maintains a personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. They prepare patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments while making appropriate referrals for post-emergency care. Education is provided to patients on continued care and healing at home, structured to maximize understanding. The RN assesses learning styles and evaluates retention of key points in education and discharge instructions. They seek to understand the priorities of patients and families, recognizing their central importance in all care services. Creating a Healing Environment is emphasized as a key element of professional nursing practice. Maintaining awareness of the patient's condition throughout the emergency visit is essential. The RN updates patient communication boards to keep patients and significant others informed throughout the ED stay.
