Diesel Mechanic

Diesel MechanicThe Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and scheduled mechanical work on the entire fleet. This person also diagnoses and repairs vehicles as needed. The mechanic is accountable for keeping track of works in progress, ensuring that maintenance and repairs are completed thoroughly and efficiently.Duties/Responsibilities:Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on trucks and trailers, including BIT and annual inspectionsRuns computer diagnostics as necessary to accurately identify failuresTroubleshoot, repair, maintain, and overhaul brake, HVAC, and major drive line component systemsPerforms minor or major repairs as necessaryRecords damaged, worn, or broken partsRecords accurate work orders using actual parts consumed, and actual labor hoursAssists with timely entering of invoices to help manage accurate inventoryCleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and suppliesCoordinates with shop foreman to schedule regular maintenance on machinesPerforms other related duties as assignedAbout CalValley Trucking:Serving the Central Valley since 1947, our family-owned business has been built on integrity and hard work. All full-time employees are eligible for PTO, medical, dental, vision and retirement plans with company matching.Required Skills/Abilities:3+ years as a diesel mechanic, with experience working on heavy trucks and trailersExperience using all tools of the trade including diagnostic, hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, etc.Valid California Driver's license (CDL A preferred)Work well independently and with othersGood communication skillsOrganized with attention to detailAbility to work in a fast-paced and stressful environmentEducation and Experience:High School Diploma or GEDTechnical education may be substituted for up to 3 years of experiencePhysical Requirements:Prolonged periods standing and walkingAble to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditionsAble to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machineryMust be able to see to visually inspect machines and verbally communicateMust be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly, and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 poundsAble to read and write English enough to identify specs and record work ordersAble to remember and understand certain instructions, guidelines or other informationSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focusAble to use hands to touch, handle, and feel, and to reach with hands and arms
