Its employees consistently rank Moss as one of the best places to work.POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACTThe Safety Manager, BESS will lead all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) functions at an assigned battery energy storage project site. This role is responsible for implementing and sustaining Moss’s BESS safety programs, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements, and partnering with Operations, Electrical, and Commissioning teams to safely manage high-risk work.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis position plays a critical role in preventing serious injuries and fatalities (SIF) by driving field execution of key controls, including:Electrical safety / NFPA 70EEnergy control (LOTO)Grounding & bonding awarenessBESS installation and commissioning safetySubcontractor’s safety performanceSite-specific hazard control executionThe Site Safety Manager serves as the primary safety leader at the site level and is expected to maintain strong alignment with the BESS Regional Safety Manager, project leadership, and client safety representatives.Lead all EHS functions on the assigned BESS project siteProvide direction and oversight to site safety staff if applicable (Safety Coordinators / Safety Professionals, …)Implement and enforce the Site-Specific Safety Plan (SSSP), standard operating procedures, and BESS Standard Work Instructions (SWIs)Partner with project leadership to align safety execution with schedule, manpower, and construction milestonesImplement and monitor safety controls specific to BESS installation and commissioning activitiesSupport field execution of electrical safety requirements, including NFPA 70E expectations, LOTO, barricading, and energy isolation controlsCoordinate with electrical and commissioning teams to identify and manage risks related to interconnection, testing, and energization activitiesReinforce safe practices around high-energy systems, temporary conditions, and changing site hazardsEnsure compliance with applicable OSHA, state, and local safety requirements and Moss company standards, including client expectationsSupport implementation of EHS compliance plans, training initiatives, and recordkeeping requirementsConduct routine field audits, inspections, and observations to verify control effectiveness and safe work practicesMaintain current safety documentation and support site readiness for internal and client auditsLead emergency response planning and execution for the job siteLead and support incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis for site events and near missesEnsure timely completion of corrective actions and verify effectiveness in the fieldMonitor leading and lagging indicators to identify trends and proactively address riskConduct safety stand-downs, coaching, and field engagement as neededBuild strong working relationships with project operations, subcontractors, and client safety representativesSupport site-level safety meetings, client interface meetings, and coordination with corporate/regional safety leadershipLead by influence and collaboration while maintaining accountability to Moss safety expectationsEDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCEMinimum of 5 years of applicable EHS leadership experienceBS in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (preferred)BCSP Certification (minimum CHST)Experience supporting BESS, solar, substation, or industrial electrical projects strongly preferredWorking knowledge of:OSHA 1926 requirements (especially high-risk construction activities)NFPA 70E fundamentalsLOTO / energy isolation practicesElectrical hazard controls in construction environmentsAbility to lead field safety execution, coach teams, and work effectively across operations and subcontractor groupsStrong organizational, communication, and documentation skillsProficiency in verbal and written English required; bilingual Spanish preferredAbility to travel and work at assigned project locations as neededCertified Safety Professional (CSP), SMP or equivalent recognized safety certificationValid driver’s license with acceptable driving recordExperience with incident management systems, field audits, and client-facing safety coordinationJOB TITLE: SAFETY MANAGER - BESSJOB LOCATION: MULTI-STATE REQUIRES HIGH TRAVELCLASSIFICATION: FULL TIME – EXEMPT – SALARIEDREPORTS TO: REGIONAL SAFETY MANAGER - BESSMoss is an equal opportunity employer.
