Medical Assistant

*Job Summary: *A Pacific Sports and Spine Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the clinics by performing both administrative and clinical tasks to ensure efficient and effective patient care. Responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations, taking medical histories, measuring vital signs, assisting with procedures, and managing patient records. The Medical Assistant also facilitates communication between patients and providers, schedules appointments, and ensures a clean and organized clinical environment. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and quality care.

*Key Responsibilities*

* Prepare patients for examination, including taking vital signs and medical histories
* Assist physicians during examinations and procedures
* Perform basic laboratory tests and collect/prep specimens for testing
* Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and properly sterilized
* Educate patients on medications, procedures, or physician instructions
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records (EMR/EHR systems)
* Handle billing, coding, and insurance documentation
* Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and relay messages to clinical staff

*Qualifications:*

* High school diploma or equivalent (required)
* Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA) preferred is preferred
* Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
* Knowledge of medical terminology, basic clinical procedures, and HIPAA regulations
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Strong organizational and time management abilities
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

*Employment Status:*

* Full-time, 40 hours per week, non-exempt position.

*Work environment and Physical Requirements:*

* Clinical Setting – Work is primarily performed in a medical clinic environment with exposure to patients, healthcare equipment, and medical supplies.
* Confidentiality & HIPAA Compliance – Strict adherence to patient confidentiality and federal privacy regulations.

* Exposure to Illnesses – Potential exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and bodily fluids; adherence to safety and sanitation protocols required

A Medical Assistant at Pacific Sports and Spine will spend some of the day seated at a desk, working on a computer and/or handling paperwork. Prolonged computer use, along with frequent typing, can lead to discomfort in the back, neck, shoulders, or wrists if ergonomics are neglected. Eye strain may result from focusing on screens and small text, while filing and organizing records may require bending or reaching.

The role may also involve using telephones or headsets, requiring high concentration to ensure accuracy and compliance. Although not physically demanding, the sedentary and repetitive nature of the role can cause strain. Taking breaks and maintaining good posture can help prevent discomfort and injury.
