Surgical Technology Extern

What We Offer

The Surgical Technologist Extern works under the supervision of the Operating Room Registered Nurse and/or Surgical Technician to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologist interns, actively engage with the intern program to learn the expertise in theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

This role includes Hourly Pay & up to $3,000 Relocation

What You'll Do

Essential Functions

Patient Care: Assists with patient care while complying with Novant Health policies and procedures and regulatory standards. Maintains clinical and professional surgical services competencies. Assists in maintaining the security of medications.

Communication: Practices effective interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Tasks: under supervision and direction, checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves. Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure. Performs counts per Novant Health policy. Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants. Helps in draping sterile field. Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure. Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure. Prepares sterile dressings. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists other members of team with cleaning of room. Assists in prepping room for the next patient.

Round on patients to create meaningful connections and keep patients informed of visit details (delays/wait times). What We're Looking For

Education: High School or GED required. Current enrollment and in good standing of an accredited Surgical Technology program. Has completed all clinical training as defined by the academic Surgical Technology program.

Experience: Previous Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
