Staff Counselor Job Title: Staff Counselor Department: Counseling & Psychological Services College/Division: General University Primary Job Posting Location: Atlanta, GA 30341 Responsibilities The Staff Counselor supports the mission of Counseling and Psychological Services by providing individual, group, and programmatic services to a diverse student population. The role includes crisis and consultation services, on‑call crisis response rotation, and participation in academic and community outreach. Provide counseling and psychotherapy, including assessment, case management, and referrals; deliver therapeutic crisis intervention and emergency services during and after regular hours. Document clinical practice according to professional standards, ensuring timely completion of clinical notes, client correspondence, and related records. Use treatment planning to support therapeutic outcomes. Perform administrative duties to support the CAPS office, such as participating in staff meetings, outcome reporting, marketing initiatives, social media support, and updating policies and procedures. Engage in outreach initiatives, develop and present programs, and serve as liaison with colleges, departments, and student organizations. Maintain professional development by attending workshops, conferences, and continuing education on counseling approaches, research, and emerging clinical needs. Qualifications Master's degree in counseling, marriage & family therapy, or social work; or Ph.D or Psy.D in clinical or counseling psychology. Licensed in Georgia as an LPC, LMFT, LCSW, psychologist, or eligible for full licensure within six months of start date. Out‑of‑state license holders may be considered if able to obtain Georgia licensure within three months. At least one year of post‑master’s experience providing professional counseling or comparable services. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Understanding of clinical and developmental issues affecting university students. Competency in individual psychotherapy with diverse populations. Ability to establish rapport quickly and provide crisis intervention, including on‑call response. Excellent judgment, problem‑solving, and knowledge of factors affecting psychological problem resolution. Public‑speaking and group facilitation skills. Strong written, verbal, administrative, and interpersonal communication. Organizational and planning skills (file and time management). Knowledge of professional standards & relevant laws for counseling centers. Ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality. Familiarity with university policies, student issues, and campus concerns. Background Check Contingencies Criminal history check.
