Partner - Employment & Professional Liability **No book of business required**Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Partner to lead and grow our Employment & Professional Liability practice. The successful candidate will defend employers and professionals in complex labor, employment and professional liability disputes, provide strategic counseling on risk and compliance, and drive business development. This senior role combines litigation leadership, client relationship management, and mentoring of associates to build a high-performing team and maintain exceptional client service.Key ResponsibilitiesLead defense strategy and manage all phases of litigation in labor, employment and professional liability matters, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, mediation, trial and appeal.Supervise, mentor and develop associates and paralegals; allocate resources and delegate responsibilities to ensure efficient case management and professional growth.Serve as primary counsel for key clients; build and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication, strategic counsel and proactive risk management.Develop new business and expand existing client relationships through networking, thought leadership, presentations, and active participation in industry groups.Negotiate settlements and alternative dispute resolution outcomes that protect client interests and control exposure and costs.Coordinate with insurance carriers, adjusters and claims teams on coverage, strategy and consent matters related to professional liability and employment claims.Oversee case budgets, staffing and billing to meet financial targets and deliver profitable outcomes for the practice.Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., ERISA, regulatory, corporate) to provide integrated legal solutions where matters overlap multiple practice areas.Ensure practice compliance with ethical obligations, firm policies and jurisdictional bar requirements.Contribute to firm leadership and strategy by participating in partner meetings, practice committees, recruitment, and client pitches.Produce high-quality written work product including briefs, motions, client advisories, policies, and training materials tailored to client needs.QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice in CA7+ years of litigation experience focusing on labor, employment and professional liability defense; prior law firm partnership or equivalent senior role preferred.Proven track record defending employers and licensed professionals in complex litigation, including substantial motion practice, trials and/or arbitrations.Demonstrated business development success with a history of cultivating client relationships and generating revenue; existing book of business and associates a plus.Strong knowledge of employment law, labor relations, professional liability exposures, and relevant regulatory frameworks.Excellent legal writing, oral advocacy, negotiation and trial skills with the ability to distill complex legal issues into practical advice for clients.Experience working with and managing insurance carriers, claims processes and coverage issues in professional liability matters.Effective leader and mentor with strong people management skills and the ability to develop a collaborative, client-focused team.High ethical standards, sound judgment, and the capacity to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.Willingness and ability to travel to client sites and court appearances as required.Benefits 401(k)Medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insuranceBonusGrowth PathMentorshipHybridBase salary $200k-$275k (depending on level and experience)
