Radiology Technologist

Job Overview Full Time (Nights) –Work on Friday, Saturday and Sunday shifts, 36 hours per pay period. Shift: 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Under the direction of the Radiologist and the Director of Imaging, the Radiographer performs diagnostic imaging procedures at a technical level that does not require constant supervision. The role requires independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation, if required. Responsibilities include performing procedures for emergency, inpatient and outpatient patients, and maintaining a pleasant, courteous and cheerful demeanor toward patients, physicians and hospital staff at all times regardless of hour or situation. Key Responsibilities Knowledge concerning equipment and supplies, their location and how to set up, clean or put in order after use. Maintains equipment assigned to department. Reports malfunctions and orders service as necessary. Completes projects and assignments on a timely basis. Performs assigned job procedures as outlined in procedure manual. Provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards. Positions and transfers patients. Provides immobilization devices as required. Assists in performance of first aid when necessary. Practices sterile technique and prevents cross‑contamination. Responsible for maintaining adequate records as required. Recognizes and responds to non‑patient duties during slow periods. Attends all mandatory in‑services and programs. Attends at least 80% of all staff meetings or initials notes that they have been read. Understands the concept of Infection Control within the hospital. Establishes and maintains good rapport with clients, imaging staff, nursing staff and other hospital staff and physicians. Does not exceed meal periods and/or number of breaks. Responsible for maintaining necessary certification for position: American Registry of Radiographic Technologist Indiana State Board of Health Certificate. Introduces self or position to patient whenever working with them. Demonstrates a willingness to assist co‑workers in the completion. Selects and operates equipment as directed. Selects proper technical factors on an individual basis. Responsible for performing EKGs. Maintains adequate records as required. Assists coordinating the daily schedules of patients. Responsible for transporting patients to and from the Department of Imaging on a timely basis using appropriate hospital technique. Completes histories and diagnostics needed for Radiologist on all requisitions. Completes all other vital information. Assesses working environment for cleanliness on a daily basis. Reports major cleaning needs to housekeeping, but shares in routine cleaning, straightening and organizing the department. Assesses working environment for safety hazards and corrects or reports conditions to appropriate individual. Requirements Knowledge & Experience Skills Verbal, nonverbal and written communication skills are required. Knowledge Knowledge of sagittal and cross‑sectional anatomy. Also will need instrumentation knowledge in area of specialized modality. Education A.R.R.T. with an Indiana State Certification License. Additional certification may be required with additional modalities. Experience No previous experience required for Radiology. For special modalities, cross training is required. Authority and Accountability Must be able to work with and properly handle different types of people. Physical and Mental Effort Regular requirement to sit, use fingers and hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands or arms; talk and hear. Frequent requirement to stand, and walk. Occasional requirement to sit, stoop or crouch. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus. Regular requirement to lift and/or move or carry 10-100 pounds. Work involves a variety of changing activities; constant interruptions. Must be able to work under stress; 75% of working time. Environmental and Working Conditions The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is regularly exposed to risk of radiation, exposure to infectious disease and injuries such as needle sticks or muscle strains. Accountability Reports to the Director of Imaging. Public Relations Maintains effective channels of communication for Imaging Department, other Imaging staff, nursing staff, other hospital staff and physicians. Takes appropriate action in problem situations to offset adverse effects. Projects a professional and positive attitude regarding the hospital. Conducts self in professional manner acting as a role model while practicing and promoting effective quest relations. Observes Hospital dress guidelines and wears ID Badge. Reports to and from work in a timely manner with a positive attitude. Provides proper notification for absences and tardiness. Responsible for punctual start of scheduled procedures. Participates in emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures and internal/external disaster plans and procedures in accordance with departmental responsibilities. Provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards. Completes projects and assignments on a timely basis. Participates in health related community projects or hospital sponsored activities. Responsible to see that Imaging Rooms are clean and neat at all times. Keeps hospital information confidential within the hospital as well as in surrounding community. Discuss problems with appropriate person or committee in a constructive manner. #J-18808-Ljbffr
