Coordinator of Sign Language Interpreting and ADA Accommodations

Job Description Montgomery College seeks a full-time Coordinator of SignLanguage Interpreting and ADA Accommodations in the Office ofHuman Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM). Thisposition, which reports to the manager that oversees employee ADAaccommodations and services and leave administration, isresponsible for coordinating communication access services forDeaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing employees and supportingworkplace accommodation efforts that promote accessibility, equity,and inclusion. This is a full-time, non-bargaining, exempt, Grade 29 position. Atypical work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00p.m. , with occasional evening or weekend flex hours. Theprimary work location is the College’s Central Services Office inRockville, MD. The position is eligible for telework up to two (2)days per week based on operational needs. Key Responsibilities (included but not limited to): Communication Access Services Coordinate interpreting, captioning, cued speech, and othercommunication access services for employees with approvedaccommodations and review accommodation requests and determineappropriate services in compliance with ADA, Section 504, andCollege policies. Schedule and manage interpreters, captionists, and serviceproviders, including substitutions, cancellations, emergencycoverage, and urgent requests. Collaborate with employees, departments, technology teams, andexternal providers to ensure effective service delivery and serveas a resource on communication access services, accommodationimplementation, and interpreting best practices. Oversee communication access technology, assistive equipment,and Video Relay Service (VRS) operations and exercise independentjudgment in prioritizing needs, resolving scheduling conflicts, andallocating resources. Program Administration Recruit, train, schedule, coach, supervise, and evaluateinterpreters, captionists, and contracted providers. Review timesheets, invoices, budgets, and service utilizationdata while maintaining accurate records. Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service qualitymonitoring. Design, develop, and deliver training on sign languageinterpreting and accommodation services and best practices. Develop procedures, administrative reports, and otheroperational resources. Ensure compliance with ADA, Section 504, College policies, andprofessional standards. Track service demand, utilization trends, and resourceallocation to support operational planning and maintainprofessional networks and stay current on best practices andindustry trends. HRSTM ADA Support Assist with intake, tracking, and coordination of workplaceaccommodation requests beyond communication access services andmaintain records, reports, documentation, and relatedadministrative processes. Monitor service demand and recommend process improvements toenhance efficiency and service quality. Support development ofprocedures, training, and resources related to accessibility andaccommodations. Maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and foster aninclusive, collaborative work environment and perform other relatedduties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in communications, disability services,interpreting services administration, human services, or a relatedfield; or an equivalent combination of education, training, andexperience. Training in sign language studies, linguistics, interpreting,Deaf studies, or a related area. Five (5) years of experience coordinating ASL interpreting,captioning, or other communication access services. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experienceworking with Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. Knowledge of the ADA, Section 504, accessibility requirements,Deaf culture, interpreting ethics, and communication access bestpractices. Experience evaluating interpreter qualifications and managingservice providers. Proficiency with Microsoft 365, scheduling systems, virtualmeeting platforms, and communication access technologies. Hiring Range Initial salary placement for new hires typically falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range($74,267 - $96,558), annually and is based on relevant candidateexperience and internal equity. The maximum salary for thisposition is $118,850 annually. As a condition of employment, the following are required at thetime of hire: Successful completion of a background check and degreeverification (if applicable).
