Unity Developer for Visual Novel

Redacted

Unity Developer, Visual Novel (Contract)

We're building a narrative-driven visual novel in Unity, releasing on Steam. We're looking for a developer to own the technical side of it, from prototype through release.

What you'd do

  • Build and maintain the core visual novel systems: dialogue presentation, character staging and expressions, scene transitions, backgrounds, and effects
  • Integrate a dialogue scripting framework and extend it with custom commands so writers can script scenes without engineering support
  • Implement interactive sequences that sit inside the narrative, including the UI, input handling, and controller support behind them
  • Build UI and menus, from in-scene interfaces to settings, accessibility options, and save/load
  • Handle save systems, checkpoints, and continuity across episodic releases
  • Set up Steam integration and the build pipeline
  • Turn written design docs into working features, then debug, optimize, and polish them
  • Own features end to end and work directly with writers, artists, and designers

What we need

  • You have shipped a visual novel built in Unity. This is a hard requirement. We need to see it, playable or released. Please do not apply if you haven’t, it’s the first thing we check.
  • Strong C# and real Unity production experience
  • Comfortable owning technical decisions independently on a small team
  • Clear communication and solid debugging instincts

Helpful, not required

Dialogue frameworks (Yarn Spinner, NaniNovel, Ink). Unity audio systems. Steamworks. Localization. Git. AI coding tools.

$20-30/hr, DOE. Between 40-120/hrs a month.

To apply

Resume, portfolio, a link to the Unity visual novel you shipped.
