Position Title: Facility Services Specialist - Electrician

Position Summary

Ensures the safe and reliable operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems throughout the College facilities. Serves as an electrician and provides technical expertise for electrical maintenance, construction, troubleshooting, and contractor oversight.

Essential Functions

• Assists with oversight of contractors on major electrical projects, including direct supervision, quality assurance, and documentation for staff pursuing electrical licensure; troubleshoots and maintains the college's computerized energy management system.
• Repairs and maintains all electrical systems, equipment, and machinery on campus. Duties include analyzing work orders, troubleshooting problems, installing service, ensuring safety, and completing documentation. Also performs preventative maintenance and maintains lighting systems and controls.
• Monitors performance of Energy Management System and troubleshoots or repairs VFDs, electrical motors, and motor controls across campus.
• Repairs and maintains lighting systems and controls, including ballast and driver replacements for indoor and outdoor lighting.
• Assists co-workers with their work orders as needed, and to helps unload materials in receiving area with forklift.
• Leads or assists with special campus projects including equipment installation, hurricane preparedness, emergency generator oversight, and team collaboration on multi-specialist tasks.
• Coordinates and assists with executing project planning for electrical upgrades and maintenance, obtaining vendor quotes, managing budgets and timelines, and ensuring quality assurance across construction and maintenance activities.
• Serves weekly on-call rotation (Monday - Sunday).
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
• 100% on-site presence.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree or technical education in electrical technology or a related field is preferred but not required. Relevant electrical trade training, apprenticeship, and demonstrated field experience may substitute for formal postsecondary education.
• Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible, hands-on commercial electrical experience, including substantial experience in commercial construction, electrical installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, renovation, and repair. Experience should include working with commercial electrical distribution systems, switchgear, panels, breakers, motors, motor controls, VFDs, conduit, lighting systems, and electrical equipment.
• Training or general knowledge of electrical systems, BAS computer systems, computer controls, fire systems and security systems.
• Preferred knowledge of computer integrated energy management HVAC control systems
• Proficiency in electrical switch gear operations, proper breaker sizing, fuse sizing, wire sizing, and other overload electrical equipment
• Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining commercial 480/277V and 208/120V electrical distribution systems
• Ability to operate lifting equipment such as Genie Lift, Forklift and JLG.
• Ability to use mechanical and electrical tools.
• Ability to operate a forklift when unloading materials at receiving area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current Texas Journeyman Electrician License or higher.

Physical Demand

Description

STANDING/WALKING - For most job tasks; on concrete and carpet; at times on grass; may walk 5-6 hours per day from one building to another.

SITTING - For most work tasks at a standard desk in a swivel chair.

VISION - Required for most work tasks to safely perform electrical or other work; drive to vendors; read manuals and blueprints; observe electrical problems. Color discrimination and near visual acuity required.

HEARING/TALKING - To communicate with staff, supervision and contractors.

LIFTING/CARRYING - A variety of tools, equipment, and materials from floor to waist or overhead to work on electrical systems; examples of weights: rigid conduit - 55 lbs.; rotary hammer - 30 lbs; constant carrying of tool belt - 20 lbs; utility cart - 30 lbs push/pull exertion; ladders - 20-25 lbs; tool box - 24 lbs; drill - 15 lbs; doors - up to 150 lbs (requires 2 people); personnel lift- 45 lbs push/pull exertion;

FINE DEXTERITY - To perform electrical work with small tools, parts, or wires; work on the inside of machinery or equipment.

HANDLING - Tools, equipment, supplies; required to move large or bulky items such as rigid conduit, doors, or lumber; bi-manual dexterity and eye/hand coordination required.

KNEELING/CRAWLING - To repair or maintain equipment or electrical systems on or under the floor or below waist level; in the boiler room or attic may be required to assume a variety of positions to work under and around pipes and other structures and fixtures; to work overhead may be required to twist while lifting, pushing or pulling.

CLIMBING - Ladders and stairs; balance required to work on ladders replacing or repairing lights or fixtures overhead.

REACHING - To change ballast/driver; repair and replace overhead fixtures; work in attic or central plant room.

FOOT CONTROL - To drive college vehicle and equipment on and off campus. To operate powered man lifts and lifting equipment to repair inside and outside Lighting on light poles.
