Staff Nurse

UPMC Jameson is hiring a casual Professional Staff Nurse to support the Resource Pool. Purpose The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. They set standards for the level and quality of care, manage and provide patient care activities for a group of patients, and demonstrate leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. This role establishes and maintains a collaborative relationship with physicians, other health care providers, patients and families to achieve desired patient outcomes. Responsibilities Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles and applies it in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff. Provides detailed and appropriate teaching to guide them through episodes of care and transitions. Actively participates in department or unit-specific quality improvement efforts, identifies opportunities, and uses research and evidence-based practice to influence patient care plans. Applies the nursing process within the Relationship Based Care framework, formulating daily goals and plans of care that involve patients as partners and consider holistic needs. Demonstrates critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues, documents comprehensively, and communicates effectively with other providers. Develops productive relationships internally and externally, demonstrates accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment; models safe work hours, time management, and a healthy lifestyle. Demonstrates accountability for professional development, participates in shared governance, supports change processes, and adapts to change with flexibility. Qualifications Minimum 1 year experience; BSN preferred. Must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan, assess patient status, and provide age-appropriate care as per department policy. Required skills include clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical and problem‑solving abilities, mobility, visual manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the practicing state. CPR required based on AHA standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration within 30 days of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Registered Nurse (RN) Current licensure in the state where the facility is located; alternatively, a multistate license under the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement.
