JOB SUMMARY

The Nurse Patient Educator I (NPE I) provides self‑management support utilizing teaching/learning principles, strategies, tools, and interventions to develop informed and engaged patients. It educates patients/families and team members using the nursing process, knowledge and skills. It communicates and collaborates with patients/families and team members and uses resources and systems to enhance patient outcomes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Degrees: Bachelor of Nursing Licenses & Certifications: Registered Nurse – current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas. Certificate in related specialty, completed within two (2) years of hire date. Basic Life Support from a hospital‑based American Heart Association (AHA) or Red Cross approved program. Other certificates as required by unit/service. Work Experience: Two (2) years of work experience in a related clinical area of practice. One (1) year of patient education experience. Language Skills: Bilingual skills preferred in other areas (except ACS). Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal (e.g., public speaking). Writing/correspondence. Writing/reports. Proficiencies: MS Word, PC, typing. Job Attributes: Knowledge/skills/abilities: analytical abilities, medical terminology knowledge, research knowledge and abilities, statistical knowledge and abilities. Work Schedule: Flexible.
