Job no: 493307 Work type: Non-Exempt Staff Location: Gambier, OH Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This is a part-time, with benefits position, working approximately 35 hours per week August - May (approximately 1365 annual hours). The hourly rate of pay for this non-exempt position is $25. The start date for this position will be August 3, 2026. Position Description The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) supports Kenyon College students by providing high-quality, student-centered nursing care within the Cox Health and Counseling Center. This role contributes to the Center’s mission to provide services that promote wellness and empower students by supporting clinical care, health promotion, and efficient clinic operations. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician, the LPN provides care within the scope of practical nursing as defined by the Ohio Board of Nursing and consistent with American College Health Association (ACHA) guidelines. The LPN performs focused nursing assessments, implements care as directed, and assists in promoting student well-being in a collaborative, inclusive campus environment. Essential Functions Clinical Care Perform focused nursing assessments, including vital signs, reason for visit, and health history. Assist providers (RN, NP, Physician) with patient care and clinical procedures. Administer medications and immunizations per provider order, protocol, and scope of practice. Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis). Provide basic wound care and other clinical treatments as appropriate. Observe and report changes in patient condition, including physical and mental health status. Student Support and Health Education Reinforce care plans and provide student education related to medications, self-care, and prevention. Offer supportive, nonjudgmental interactions with students navigating illness, stress, or health concerns. Promote healthy behaviors about nutrition, sleep, stress management, substance use, and physical activity. Care Coordination Assist with communication of test results and follow-up instructions. Support coordination of care, including referrals and tracking follow-up needs. Communicate effectively with clinical team members regarding patient care. Documentation and Compliance Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record (PyraMED). Ensure compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, CLIA, and college policies. Assist with monitoring and documentation of health requirements, including immunizations and TB screening. Clinical Operations Prepare and maintain exam rooms and clinical equipment. Assist with inventory management of medical supplies and vaccines. Support clinic flow and patient throughput. Provide occasional front desk support to ensure a welcoming and efficient environment. Health Promotion and Campus Engagement Assist with campus health initiatives, including vaccine clinics and wellness events. Collaborate with Health Services, Counseling Services, and Health Promotion staff. Contribute to a culture of wellness, inclusion, respect, and student-centered care. Minimum Qualifications Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing with the Ohio Board of Nursing. Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program. Current CPR/BLS certification. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based healthcare environment. Commitment to confidentiality, ethical practice, and student-centered care. Preferred Qualifications Experience in ambulatory care, primary care, or college health. Experience working with adolescents or young adults. Familiarity with electronic health records (e.g., PyraMED). Interest in health promotion and preventive care. Working Conditions Responsibilities are performed in an ambulatory health care center. Close contact with students may involve exposure to airborne and bloodborne pathogens. Participation in campus health events (e.g., vaccine clinics, orientation) may be required. Ability to perform physical requirements, including lifting up to 25–30 pounds and prolonged movement within the clinic, with or without reasonable accommodation. Flexibility in scheduling during peak periods or public health needs.
