The RN is responsible for the prevention of illness and injury and the alleviation of suffering. This is achieved through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses and advocacy in care. The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. This includes adherence to the Nurse Practice Act and relevant policies. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The RN will educate patients and families in health promotion and disease management. A working knowledge of pharmacology is necessary for the safe administration of medications. The RN shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization. Compliance with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements is essential. Active participation in professional development and continuing nursing education is required. Integration of nursing research and current evidence into practice is expected. The RN provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. Collaboration with peers in improvement initiatives is part of the role. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
