Responsibilities
- Assess and respond to the patient's physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs; advocate for the patient throughout the care continuum.
- Apply professional nursing judgment to implement care plans and address identified problems, including IV therapy when indicated.
- Communicate patient assessments and care plans to the appropriate team members to ensure coordinated care.
- Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic measures (labs, radiology, EKG) and participate in perioperative nursing activities, including accurate transcription and execution of orders.
- Transcribe and implement physicians' orders in a timely manner; assist with admission to the surgical center and ensure proper documentation, site markings, and coordination with the anesthesiology team.
- Document in the patient's electronic health record accurately and promptly; verify required information and ensure all relevant paperwork and safety checks are complete.
- Provide patient and family education tailored to the care setting; assist with supplies management and maintain cost-conscious use of resources.
- When assigned to PACU, monitor airway and vital signs, manage pain appropriately, and coordinate with the surgeon and anesthesiologist for any concerns; determine readiness for discharge per criteria.

Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license (per state requirements)
- Ability to work in an outpatient perioperative/PACU environment
- Proficiency with IV therapy and basic diagnostic processes (labs, radiology, EKG) as part of standard nursing duties
- Competence with electronic health records and timely, accurate documentation
- Strong communication skills and ability to educate patients and families
- Willingness to assist with patient flow and float to support cross-coverage as needed
