Physical Therapist Assistant, Ergonomics & Wound Care, Day Shift

Physical Therapist Assistant – Ergonomics & Wound Care Provides expert treatment skills in specialty areas of physical therapy, including wound care, ergonomics, and other clinical specialties. Works under limited supervision of a physical therapist while administering APTA‑standard treatments for disabilities, injuries, and diseases to relieve pain, restore motor function, and maintain optimal performance. Responsibilities Administer standard physical therapy procedures such as active/passive exercise, massage, walking, running, muscle re‑education, and modalities including ultrasound, electrical stimulation, traction devices, fomentation, whirlpool, etc. Assist with interdisciplinary planning to ensure high‑quality home‑health care services. Observe work schedule, adhere to hospital and departmental policies, and complete assigned projects on time. Attend case conferences to evaluate patients’ progress and discuss future plans for therapy. Participate in departmental staff and in‑service meetings as required. Conform to established quality‑assurance standards and participate in performance‑improvement activities. Demonstrate and instruct patients and staff on the proper use of PT modalities, massage, and exercises for use between treatments. Document patient progress by recording treatment information and writing daily or required progress notes. Implement treatment under direction of the physical therapist and physicians’ orders; reassess and plan additional therapy. Show knowledge and skills to provide age‑appropriate care for patients served. Keep current on latest developments in physical therapy by reading literature and participating in education courses. Maintain and meet expectations for all competencies, licenses, certifications, and education required by local administration and regulatory agencies. Orient patients to therapeutic procedures, reassuring them throughout treatment sessions. Prepare patients and PT modalities (traction devices, exercise equipment) for prescribed treatments. Provide patient care in specialty areas under supervision of the physical therapist, responsible for treatment, program development, and marketing of skills achieved. Deliver in‑servicing and education to department, hospital, physician staff, and the general public as required. Report patient progress or complications directly to the attending physician. Schedule and complete visits within established timeframes. Takes initiative to contact physical therapists or other health‑care professionals as needed to ensure quality care. Willingly perform other duties and innovations as assigned. Qualifications Associate’s degree in physical therapy or a related field from a two‑year college or technical school. More than 10 years of experience with expert treatment skills in wound care, ergonomics, or other clinical specialties. Valid California driver’s license when travel is required. Certificate in physical therapy assistant or eligibility for registration as a PTA in California. Current CPR certification. Licensed California Physical Therapy Assistant. Membership in APTA preferred. Ability to organize and monitor the work of others. Ability to relate effectively with patients, nurses, physicians, and home‑health staff in a courteous, professional manner. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Analytical and diagnostic ability to interpret physician orders and develop effective treatment plans. Evidence of automobile insurance when travel is required.
