Customer Service Representative

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide courteous and professional customer service to banking customers, and handle various types of financial transactions. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Balance currency, coin, and checks in cash drawers at end of day and calculate daily transactions using computers, calculators, or adding machines. Cash checks and pay out money after verifying that signatures are correct, that written and numerical amounts agree, and that accounts have sufficient funds. Receive checks and cash for deposit, verify amounts, and check accuracy of deposit slips. Examine checks for endorsements and to verify other information such as dates, bank names, identification of the persons receiving payments and the legality of the documents. Enter customers’ transactions into computers in order to record transactions and issue computer-generated receipts. Count currency, coins, and checks received, by hand or using currency-counting machine, in order to prepare them for deposit or shipment to branch banks or the Federal Reserve Bank. Identify transaction mistakes when debits and credits do not balance. Prepare and verify cashier’s checks. Arrange monies received in cash boxes and coin dispensers according to denomination, strap accordingly, initial and teller stamp. Process transactions such as term deposits, retirement savings plan contributions, automated teller transactions, night deposits, and mail deposits. Receive mortgage/loan payments, verifying payment dates and amounts due. Resolve problems or discrepancies concerning customers’ accounts. When necessary, seek assistance from management. Monitor bank vaults to ensure cash balances are correct. Sort and file deposit slips, checks and deposit account signature cards. Pull deceased depositors signature cards for processing by Management. Receive and count daily inventories of cash, drafts, and travelers’ checks. Process customer loan payments. Carry out special services for customers, such as ordering ATM/Debit cards, check orders, online banking sign up and/or issuing of Traveler’s checks. Have understanding of available bank products and cross sell accordingly. Carry out other additional duties as may be assigned by management. Follow bank’s confidentiality policy regarding safeguarding customer’s information. Follow banking regulations, (Reg CC, Reg DD, Reg E, etc.). Answer questions, withdraw, transfer or rollover customer CD’s. Mail out customer‘s CD renewals. Balance and prove ATM. Batch checks, balance checks and run through Branch Capture. Maintain Teller limits (as set forth by management). Responsible for proof of cash drawer at the end of day. File CTR’s and SAR’s as required. ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Completion of Bank assigned online training classes Keeps abreast of all industry trends. Attends training programs, conferences and meetings as required to gain industry knowledge and establish relationships with other professionals in the field of Banking. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent certificate required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good presentation skills. Ability to multi-task and handle varying deadlines within a fast-paced work environment. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to understand and apply basic mathematical concepts. Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus. Notary Public is a plus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Typically the noise level in the work environment is moderate. Will have high volume of interactions in person and over the telephone. Fast-paced environment. May experience occasional job stress in response to job demands. There are no significant hazardous conditions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to work required hours. Frequently required to sit or stand for long periods of time. Normal range of vision, hearing, and speaking abilities are required. The ability to skillfully operate a computer, telephone and other standard office equipment is required. Occasionally travel to other branches may be necessary.
