Working Title: Facilities Maintenance Mechanic Department Name: Health, Wellness and Recreation Center Division: Administration and Finance Classification Title: Facilities Maintenance Mechanic Classification Salary Range: $5,787 - $7,801 per month The anticipated hiring salary for this position is 5,796 per month. About the Position Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, Building Trades, the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic serve as the primary Facilities Maintenance Mechanic for the Health, Wellness and Recreation Center, performing maintenance, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on facility systems and recreation equipment. This role ensures the facility remains safe, operational, and well-maintained through effective troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination with specialized contractors as needed. Overview of Duties and Responsibilities Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection, adjustment, alteration and repair of equipment and facility components. Supports the maintenance operation of the Health, Wellness and Recreation Center through documentation, inventory management and coordination of maintenance activities. Provides operational support to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Health, Wellness and Recreation Center. Minimum Qualifications Required Education: These abilities normally would be acquired through four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade, or any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship Certificate or documented training in a related trade, High School Diploma, or GED Increasingly responsible experience including journey-level skill in any of the following trades; mechanical system, carpentry, electrical, plumbing or heating, and air conditioning repair; facilities building maintenance or any reasonable equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities/building maintenance mechanic which demonstrates achievement of a journey-level skill. Valid driver license Special Working conditions Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday; however, work hours may be adjusted to support emergencies, special events, facility shutdowns, preventive maintenance projects or operational requirements. Occasional overtime, evening or weekend work may be required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must have journey-level experience in one of the following trades and a thorough knowledge of methods materials, and equipment used in the operation and repair of carpentry, concrete & masonry, flooring & tile work, roof maintenance, electric vehicle & battery maintenance, plumbing, heating, electrical, water, and sewer systems; thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in the repair of mechanical equipment and in general facilities building maintenance and repair work and skill in the performance of such work; working knowledge of safety orders of the Industrial Accident Commission dealing with heating, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Working Knowledge of commercial fitness equipment maintenance and repair. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the job; ability to estimate time and materials needed; ability to keep simple records; ability to follow procedural oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Ability to estimate labor and material requirements. Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and computerized work orders. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, contractors and vendors. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments. Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and safe work practices. Preferred Qualifications Experience maintaining commercial fitness and recreation equipment. Experience in higher education, municipal or institutional facilities. CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. Boom Lift and Scissor Lift Operator Certification. Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
