Associate Attorney – Liability Defense Litigation
Location: Fairfax, VA
Salary: $100,000 – $160,000 (commensurate with experience)

A growing and well-established litigation firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Fairfax, Virginia office. This position offers the opportunity to manage a diverse liability defense caseload, gain significant courtroom experience, and work closely with clients throughout all stages of litigation.

The ideal candidate is a motivated, detail-oriented attorney with strong writing, analytical, and advocacy skills who is eager to take ownership of cases from inception through resolution.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload from inception through trial and post-trial proceedings
• Communicate regularly with clients regarding case strategy, developments, and status updates
• Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation-related documents
• Conduct legal research and analysis on a wide range of issues
• Prepare, review, and respond to written discovery
• Take and defend depositions, including expert witness depositions
• Conduct direct and cross-examination of witnesses at trial and in trial depositions
• Appear in court for hearings, motions, conferences, and trials
• Represent clients during mediations, settlement conferences, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings
• Develop case strategy and evaluate liability and damages exposure
• Meet and maintain firm billing and productivity requirements

Qualifications

• Active membership in the Virginia State Bar required
• 2+ years of litigation experience preferred, with experience in liability defense strongly preferred
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
• Experience handling court appearances, depositions, and discovery matters
• Ability to independently manage cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and client relationship management skills
