Join us.Job DescriptionAECOM Buildings + Places Boston/New England’s architecture practice includes aviation, transit, research/science, higher education and federal/state/local government projects. It recently was recognized by the Boston Business Journal as second in 2025 revenue among Massachusetts firms. It is a dynamic, fast-paced design environment, client-focused and collaborative. We regularly work with other practices on the East Coast and are home to the East Region's architectural design and urban design leaders.AECOM is seeking a creative, experienced Designer or Architect III to help solve design and technical issues while leading task teams contributing to project delivery. Traditionally labelled “job captain” in the profession, a person in this role will be involved in project development and deliverables from conceptual studies through full design and construction administration, as well as guiding others to follow best practices in the same. As part of diverse teams, this role will help organize and execute business development efforts, meet client goals, and ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards, in coordination with Project Managers, lead designers, Principals, BIM leaders, QA/QC reviewers and other practice leadership.Key ResponsibilitiesLeads and organizes architectural drawing sets across SD, DD, CD, and CA phases, meeting client/design/firm goals and deadlinesApplies industry knowledge and a thorough understanding of concepts, principles and technical capabilitiesHas a strong commitment to meeting responsibilities, plus a positive, helpful outlook and ideas to contribute to a teamPossesses strong skills acquired through advanced training, study and experienceProfessionally licensed in architecture or actively pursuing licensureUnder the direction of the Supervising Architect / Designer Completes assigned work independently and receives/applies general guidance and direction on new projects, tasks and prioritiesAnalyzes issues and identifies solutions using existing techniques, and proposes approaches for novel issuesCoordinates the work with other disciplines and other departments participating on an assigned project.Exercises independent judgement in determining how work is performed; review and approve conceptual designs as required.Proactively identifies and advocates for improvements to existing processes and proceduresExchanges information on sensitive matters and works to build consensus across teams and departmentsUnderstands stakeholders by anticipating their needs and ensures work results will have positive impactAdapts to new processes or changing assignments, and considers alternative approaches to complete workProvides guidance and training to junior team members, and proactively reports to project managers, principals, and lead designers.QualificationsMinimum RequirementsBachelor's degree in Architecture plus four (4) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationAbility to obtain a Massachusetts Registered Architecture license within 12 monthsPreferred QualificationsMaster's degree in ArchitectureExperience in aviation, transportation, infrastructure, higher education, lab/science and/or Federal architectural projects and experience in coordination and package completion on complex architectural projectsNCARB Certificationand LEED AccreditationProficiency in Revit, Enscape and other BIM tools, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and graphic communicationsAbility to build strong working relationships with allStrong communication and presentation skills; adaptable to various audiencesExcellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detailAdditional InformationSponsorship for U.S. employment authorization is not available for this position now or in the futureRelocation not available for this positionAt AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
