Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides skilled nursing care in a high-risk, high-acuity environment, managing patient care from delivery through postpartum. This role includes supporting midwifery clients, private OB patients, and community care clinics, with responsibilities extending to newborn care during and after delivery. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and adheres to established guidelines to ensure safe and effective maternal and neonatal outcomes. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care for high-risk labor and delivery patients in a fast-paced environment.
• Function as Baby Nurse during delivery and provide continuous newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
• Perform newborn assessments including eyes, thighs, and administer Vitamin K injections.
• Administer medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate as required.
• Float between postpartum, antepartum, and sister facilities providing mother/baby care as needed.
• Use electronic fetal monitoring systems and comply with EPIC hardstop requirements.
• Collaborate with midwives, private OBs, and adult recovery services supporting substance recovery.
• Adhere to AWHONN guidelines for staffing and patient care.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communication within the interdisciplinary team.

• Current Registered Nurse license with at least 1 year of high-risk labor and delivery experience.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• Proficiency with electronic fetal monitoring and EPIC electronic medical records.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity labor and delivery unit.

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate certifications.

• Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
• Float to postpartum, antepartum, and sister facilities providing mother/baby care.
• Must comply with hard stop screening requirements for circulation and newborn care.
• Experience with high volume (500-600 deliveries/month) and high acuity labor and delivery units.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with 4 operating rooms and 31 beds.

• Schedule is posted every 6 weeks and designed to meet unit needs.
• Shift patterns include coverage for weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
